A Tek 3 will transform the car. The std car has very little to offer once you get to around 4500 rpm. Also, drivability is improved, as the torque comes in earlier allowing you to keep it in, say, 3rd while tackling things like speed bumps, whereas before you'd have to change down to 2nd.
Pay attention, also, to people's recommendations for who to go to for the remap.
I'd recommend BR Developments.

Get them to give me a call or something. I was booked in for the 18th and my name is John Switzer.
Cheers Virgin, much appreciated.

Tek3 is the best mod i've ever made to my car, i fitted a full scoobysport de-cat, sti panel filter then the re-map and my MY99 put out 292bhp at powerstation and its a totally different car to drive, pat mapped my car and i can't recommend him enough, a top bloke. get it done mate you won't regret it.

Hi all,
Many thanks for your comments. Looks like its just a case of saving up a few pennies and then getting in touch with Pat or Bob :-)
Glad you are all so chuffed with the results btw!
Best.

Been reading this thread for some days now and its exciting to see what comments you people say.
Would be interested in this too but would it benefit my car?
MY00 Currently PPP
Centre Decat & Vortex Backbox
Other than that totally standard.
Would I need to consider any more mods? Gauges + Anything Else?
Cheers Ashley

I would not do it unless you were gonna go full decat. You would not have a massive amount to gain for your money ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
If you do then you only need a boost gauge but i personally would have a knocklink too

Would you really need a FULL decat? Even running just a performance backbox and air filter, there is supposed to be a gain of 30 bhp and lbs ft to be had. Many don't wont the hassle of changing centre sections come the MOT. Wouldn't a Decat downpipe, decent backbox and std centre give you a good configuration for the EcuTek to exploit?
I think a knocklink is a good idea even on a std car....you never know when you might get a bad tank of fuel! :-(
All the best.

Tainton already has the ppp so a Tek3 ain't worth 600 notes to anyone in that position. It is worth it if he decides to mod what he already has in the way of turbo and exhaust but if he's gonna stick as is then it deffo ain't worth it

New Scooby,
Brun was talking to Tainton not you mate, you will definitely notice a big difference,
In the case of Tainton a re-map is probably not worth the money (unless he decats or changes the turbo) as the gains from a custom re-map will be marginal over what he already has (PPP).

I had a 99MY Tek2'd to a sensible 245bhp with no other mods and always ran it on SUL/Dodgimax. Peformed superbly for 12,000 miles then went bang (new short engine).
As always when Imprezas go pop there are numerous theories which there pages on here about. Mine had 50k on it, on-the-dot FSSH, motorsport oil etc etc. Had it repaired and sold it.
Did the TEK2 contribute ? I don't personally think so as it wasn't in a high state of tune. I still have never, ever bought Optimax again though.

Mate - I was in exactly the same position as you...I went decat and then TEK2 - in first stage the difference from standard to full decat (ScoobySport) was like changing to another car: much better pickup and raced to a ton much faster. Then I added the TEK2 and to be honest didn't really notice much difference - apart from a slightly higher reading on the boost gauge! Your milage may vary
. I wish I'd rather spent the money on a bigger turbo and TEK3...

ive had three TEK3 maps, not really impressed overall, on my UK TURBO 2000 i had it mapped a few month after i had it decatted, the car didnt seem any faster after wards, this was proven on the 1/4 mile where the times were the same, BHP wise i only gained 18bhp peak power (258 before remap / 276 after) but actually lost some mid range torque!
then on my STi6: i needed to get this mapped to run on UK fuel, as after importing the car it lasted about 1 week before detting itself to destruction, so i had it TEK3'd to be safe: BUT a few thousand mile later, it detted again resulting in engine failure.
so then went for the 2.5 engine replacement which needed another tek3 remap, but sold the car shortly afterwards to help pay for the 8grands worth of engine rebuilds![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
my current 1997 scooby cant be remapped, but think id go for a complete aftermarket ECU instead anyway like a MOTEC or GEMS as have seen better results this way.

Tony,
I don't think you have to mate, from what I can gather that's where the biggest cat is located, removing it will result in a bigger power increase than decatting the centre section. More importantly, the turbo will kick in 500rpm earlier. Consult the experts though!
Best.

tony f, you can remap a standard car with no mods at all. if you improve the breathing: filter, downpipe, decat, you will get even more improvements. I think it is a good idea to ask around as to who is a good mapper, as thier are some crap ones out there.
dont think big bhp increases, and go for drivability instead, I've "only" got 275 bhp, but BRD DEVELOPEMENTS managed to get 330 lb ft torque out of my motor very safely![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I've never any need to redline it either, as all the power is in the mid range, just where you need to safely overtake and accelerate past just about everything else on the road![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
