Slightly off topic but in said thread a few people made reference to the "stig" being an ex F1 driver / champion??

I thought it was a fellow called Ben Collins

OH ! Sorry I thought you said 'We are a nation of freeloading, chav scumbags'
But maybe it was my freeloaded NHS specs not being up to the job.

Please don't try and prove my first post (No 55) to be correct, I neither ask for nor deserve your support. Thanks once again

I think that on the whole, Americans are pretty much the same as the rest of us. Most of the ones I have met either here or on my travels are great people. Unforunately, it's the people on that thread who post such crap like nuking us and we're all Lymee pussies that tar the rest of the population with the same brush.

As usual, the few spoil it for the rest, alas in the US case it means the arrogant views and actions of the few have meant people flying planes into their buildings.

Geezer, while I agree with some points, those same friendly Americans you've met would quite easily write the same kind of garbage when it gets down to the nitty gritty.
Someone's internet persona can be very different to meeting them in real life.

That is very true, and I bet that most of the people who post here would not speak like they do face to face.

I bet if we all met up for a prolonged period of time, the people we would make friends with are not necessarily the people we 'gel' with on this BBS.

So peoples internet persona are generally worse than their real persona in my experience.

''This is extremely untrue as i spent 18months working alongside American troops in iraq. The parachute regiment to whom you refer are imo the best infantry regiment in the world. I'll give my reasons in a minute. This war in iraq is something the US has never had to deal with before, i mean militia/street fighting/mixing with civilians etc etc. The UK soldiers have dealt with this before and are suited better for the job. We have been fighting terror longer than you lot have been eating mcdonalds meals. Northern Ireland has prepared the majority of british forces to deal with these situations (militia/streetfighting/mixing with civilians) so referring to your quote above who is the experienced and who is the inexperienced?? The experienced are the men who have fought terror in the streets of N.Ireland and the inexperienced are the Americans who have never had to deal with this kind of war before.

2nd point.....Reckless and stupid?? Think about it?? Who shoots 1st ask questions later?? Its the Americans?? Reckless and stupid, i really cannot believe this has come from a so called American soldier. You must realise its the other way around, how do you explain all the blue on blue incidents? Ie killing and bombing your own men and allie troops. The brits have lost a lot of men through American neglect and stupidity. Firing on our tanks and aircraft is stupidity.

Unskilled, i have more skills than you can shake a stick at.

Now can i tell you about my own experience in Iraq. I was injured in a mortar attack 20 miles north of Basra, i lost the lower half of my right leg and returned home April this year on full war pension. We were securing a route with the aid of 6 US troops when we were blasted with mortars, I fell to the ground in a blur/dazed i had noticed half my leg was missing, i was screaming in agony and then i noticed 1 of my very close friends split in 2 by the blast. He was obviously dead as his limbs were blown off and he only had waist up left. 2 of your American soldiers were blown to bits beside myself and it has mentally scarred me for the rest of my life. I have flashbacks and visions of the event nearly every night and i am now seeing a Psychiatrist as i am having trouble coping. There were 3 dead, myself and 2 others (2brits/1US) lost limbs and the others on the patrol survived with minor injuries.

I have seen so many bad things in Iraq, things that have mentally scarred me inside so when i come on here and find this America vs Britain debate i am truelly shocked. We are working closely together out there and none of you know the half of it. I have made very good friends with the American soldiers i have worked with and i pay my gratitude to the American medic who came straight to my aid shortly after the blast. You would think they'd treat there own 1st but it wasn't like that, i was seen as soon as the medics come on scene. I was treated very well by the US medics and pay gratitude towards that.

This US vs Britain debate is hurtful as none of you fully know what you are talking about. In war we are working together side by side, so please stop all this nonsense about how America is so much better than Britain and how Britain is so much better than America.

Onto the car debate, all ive got to say is bigger is not always better. I used to have a 2.0 TURBOCHARGED IMPREZA pushing 450bhp/400lbft. It was very very quick and would eat some of your 8-9litre V8 muscle cars.''

At least the scooby got a mention...LOL

Still dont think a Vette could beat a full house Evo round a track with bends.

I found the text below on a Car & Driver forum, so you may be right:

" I could put it another way. Despite costing 50% more than an EVO or STI, the Vette has less passenger and cargo room, and can't provide the thrills that either these vehicles can provide during all four seasons. And according to a Motor Trend test in the June 2003 issue, despite costing 66% more than an EVO, despite having a 134 more hp and 127 lb ft of torque, and despite being 145 pounds lighter, a Z06 was only 1 tenth of a second faster around a track and ran a 600 ft slalom 1 mph slower than an EVO."
