Hey, a BMW driver let me in from a junction today. And I gave him a little wave of thanks. We both drove merrily on our way

So there's him, Mr repmobile in his 318 and me, in a 94WRX (must be ex-saxo ricer ) driving just like everybody else here likes to think they drive

I used to have a scoob, but then all the chavs got one so I got a BM instead. The reason that we all drive like we own the road? It is probably cos we do

Having driven around in porsche's for a couple of years now, my top 5 of people who give me the most hassle are :

BMW Drivers. The ones in 330i's are pissed cos they havn't got an M3 & the worst culprits are the 318 brigade (de-badged) probably pissed cos their "executive car" cannot out-perform a middle of the range Mondeo.
Passat drivers. Probably pissed off because....they have to drive around in a Passat - lets face it, if we had a choice would anyone drive a Passat ?
Golf drivers (Mk4 the worst) They seem to think that their underpowered heavyweight cars can beat anything - lets face it, even an R32 aint that fast.
Obvious boy racers in their maxed up Nova's etc but they don't annoy me like the above do.

when i drive the shopping trolley proton (mitsu Colt) every 318 driver on the motorway speeds up as i'm cruising past i really notice it. Funny thing is in my proper car (MR2 turbo) the only people i ever find trying it on are 17 year old fools in saxos, the BM brigade are at least able to sense its totally pointless trying to have a go (protons are obiously more of a challange). The17yr olds however, they just don't seem to realize 260bhp sports cars will make them look very very silly.

i had the BMW syndrone last night. had just picked son up from college (he does late night courses) and was heading home, next thing i no this X5 pulls in front of me and is heffing it. was only a 3.0d of all things. so i caught up and passed him (despite all the black smoke coming out of his exhaust there was no chance he could keep up, and i'd proved this. then when we get to our roundabout after this long straight, there's lights. so we stop, and he eventually catches up, stops, but looks at the other sides lights, and as soon as they went red he dropped the clutch through our red light and continued booting it.!! what was worse is that my son said he saw two little kids in the back, which is NOT an appropriate thing to do but that is bmw drivers for you i suppose

There is no question in my mind that these 'Bavarian Sierras' (more common than Fords locally) do appear to attract a 'certain' type of driver. I wonder if that shows in the Insurance stats.

Using the Tomcat as a yardstick, any half decent Subaru should make easy meat of these highly regarded Bavarian products ....
Problem I have is getting traction. This is why my ¼mile times are not so good but my terminal speeds are quite high. When my RS was running 18psi it was ample to give my mates tweeked 93 WRX a run for its money on the straights. I now run 25psi and the car is dramtically quicker but we haven't had a rematch.

A stock Impreza (or even a mildly tuned one) is not that quick once it's rolling. Excellent off the line though which is what I love about them (and the sound)

Where I live, nothing says "Woman" like an X5. Nearly all the 4x4s are driven by women.

If I bought one it would have to be the wifes car otherwise I might look a bit camp!

Why are 4x4's always used by school run mum? They can never park the damn things and the smallest runt of a child climbs out of them.

Can kids not walk to school anymore? I always walked when I was a lad and it wasn't that long ago.

I would have to agree with you there

As I picked up my bm last night I cant comment on the attitude of other road users but over the last few days after telling friends etc, there is a stigma attached to them here are a few:-

"nice knowing you as you wont want to know the likes of me anymore"
"are you now joining that really expensive all for show gym"

these said in jest but even so people do tend to have misconceptions

Well, I'm well and truly buggered going by you lot! I've got a Transit van AND I drive the wifes 320d Sport AND I've got one of those Type R Civicy thingys that you all like to slate......and I only drive like a **** on these lovely (empty) country B roads where I live and then only in the CTR, by myself,cos thats what I bought it for. As for the wife, I always fall a sleep when she's driving the Bimmer she's THAT steady. (or I'm pissed). C'mon chaps, are you saying NONE of you are just a little bit guilty of knobbish driving.....ever......hmmm...?
Edited to say that the BMW's a co. car (and let's face it , it was a choice between a BMW or a Vectra) and she does 25k miles yearly and it's comfy, economical,low car tax, can park it without worrying and she feels safe when our little girl is with her being in a big-ish car.So there.

Truth be known, we ALL have 'driving like a ****' moments - except me

But why do BMW drivers shorten it to BM ? Don't think anyone does it to any other make ?

Yeah, I had an Alf 156 the other day, quite nice to drive and overtook this vauxha like it wasn't there ! And handles so much better than the missus' Toyo.

Good job 'BM' drivers don't make the change to TVR's !

All in jest for a Friday

Er, surely it would be 'touche' if they called them Suba's.

By far the worst reputation around my humble abode is now coveted by Impreza drivers.

I noticed a steady decline just before I sold my MY99 last January. With L, M reg WRX imports now costing very little and finding their way into the hands of the Nova brigade. Sadly the decline is exactly the same as what happened with Cossies.

I loved the impreza (aprt from reliability and consumables) and as I don't personally give a **** about image, I may have another one once new house purchase completed, but may choose a M3 instead, who knows.....

Sad but true .... and even sadder is that I've actually agreed with Senior AP on something

Ok I stand corrected, some marques are given abbreviated names due to their length ie Mercedes Benz, Lamborghini, etc. (And I assume 'Fezza' is Ferrari although I've never heard it used...thankfully).

But BMW is three frikkin' letters ! Hardly needs shortening

Three letters = BMW = five syllables

Ferrari = three syllables
Lamborghini = four syllables
Mitsubishi = four syllables
Mercedes Benz = four syllables
Rolls Royce = two syllables

By that logic BM drivers are the least lazy with their abbreviations

Yeah,

We're all road hogs who can't drive, have no indicators, no lane discipline and abbreviate everything!

So what does your escort top out to once "rolling"?

I bet it isnt a patch on 330...

PS I havent a 330, but I do have a 325, being honest I kind of enjoy playing up to the arrogance thing, its great to live up to the sterotype now and again!

In fact , after this post, I shall ensure I do not indicate and/or cut up any scoob drivers I see.

Best

pmsl

It was timed on the Bruntingthorpe straight at 150mph on expensive GPS based timing gear earlier this year. I also struggled heavily with traction and as a result my 0-60 was 6.2 seconds (an issue I'm looking at over the winter).

what RS's are 4 wheel drive are they not
