F@~#!*# CYCLISTS !!
#31
Cyclists should contribute because they use the 'service' of the cycle lanes. Where there are not any cycle lanes some use up the whole road like they are in cars!! Slowing traffic down etc. Many are not wearing sufficient safety wear to be seen or prevent serious injury if they fall as well. If drivers do not wear seatbelts they get a fine. No such thing for cyclists and yes they should get in as serious trouble as drivers if the flout road signs, rules etc.
What if our mate had to swerve to avoid the stupid idiot cyclist and hit another car would it still be the drivers fault or cyclists...its just a joke.
As for the cyclist...take him to the cleaners if you can not in the correct cyclewear and disobeying road law. He could have caused a major accident!
As for the suit guy he should be shot these scumbag 'no win no fee' people should be clamped down on.
I hope you get it sorted mate. I feel gutted for you.
By the way for all you good, law abiding (road laws I mean) cyclists this is in NO WAY DIRECTED at you. I used to cycle a lot myself in the past.
Aaquil.

In defense of cyclists I am a very keen cyclist (as well as a Scooby owner) and I do not ride in the manner of the idiots that seem to keep popping up on here.
Also, in further defense of cyclists and in connection with cycle paths. I have an expensive road bike that I also use for commuting to work on. There are cycle paths on my way to work. Installed by widening the pavement and laying half of it in red. I do not use these cycle ways. The reason ? When I'm cruising along to work I'm typically doing +20mph, if I did this on the cycleway I would get called a lunatic by pedestrians and risk injury from these pedestrians and also cars pulling out of poorly sighted driveways etc.
Also the council has not taken any great pains to make the ways particularly smooth nor to flatten out the kerbs. I would trash my (expensive) wheels in no time what so ever if I used these paths, and IMO put myself at greater risk. Also the priority of the cycle paths is such that I have to stop to cross every side street. It's OK having to do this if you're a bus or in a car where a deal of physical effort is not required to actually get back up to the speed you were doing before (unless of course you're Mr Creosote and just flexing you ankle is a strain ). Just think, how p*ssed off would you be if you were on the main road and had to stop at every side street to let anyone waiting pull out ?
Anyway, the guy in question was an ****, not all cyclists are like this. Just like not all young drivers are boy racers, not all muslims are terrorists etc. You get my point ?
To further prove my point I get just as many w@nkers in cars that nearly run me off the road. Twice last week (on my way to work in good daylight, good visibility and a long view ahead distance) 2 different cars overtook slower cars on a small A road that I cycle in to work using. I was coming the other way on both occassions and had I not been paying sufficient attention I would have been run down (at possibly +60mph) on both occassions. On both occassions I was three wide accross the carriage way to 2 oncoming cars, which basically meant I was in the gutter at +20mph!!!
I don't brand all cars drivers as inconsiderate idiots just because of these small percentage that are too busy considering only their own little need to get to where ever they are going 30 seconds earlier at the risk of someone elses life just because they are not paying attention!! AM I annoyed by it, you bet I am, would I report them if I had seen the registration ? Too bloody right. Would anything happen ? Not unless the government could generate some revenue from it
So stop dumping on "the cyclists" you set of morons. It was one individual not a whole group.

Yeah well, if you were a cyclist as well as a driver then you would understand.
While I accept that there are idiots on bikes, and they should be suitably taken to task, there are just as many idiots in cars in my experience.
Or put it this way, I have more incidents or potential incidents with car drivers not paying sufficient attention in the space of a year (doing about 2000 miles per annum on my bike) than I do with bikes when I'm in my car and I do 10k plus in the car.
So I am bound to take it a little personally.
Anyway, it was a CE approved teddy so would not have caused any injury

I was a cyclist once going "fast" (c.25mph) on a flat, dry two way city (oxford) road and a red 911 pulled up at a junction (my right of way) on my left. The guy in the right hand seat looked at me, so I kept going hard, and the ******* car pulled out - it was LHD! I went over the bonnet, knocked of a headlamp, bounced along the road and folded the bike frame. So he took me to a cashpoint & withdrew the cost of the bike. My first lift in a 911! (and all I was used to was a fiat 900) He didn't seem to have slowed down much after that, however.

Nuisance cyclists are a nusisance but 'nuisance' car drivers can actually cripple or kill someone rather than just scratch some paintwork - let's keep it in perspective (and sue the stupid B!).
A motorist kindly dislocated my shoulder once when I was cycling to work, happily using the bus lane..Matey does a right turn right in front of me and I go over his bonnet. Bike was ok thank God I was a bit gutted as it was only a manky old Citroën and it dirtied my shorts as I rolled over [I accepted his very sincere apology, cancelled the ambulance and continued my ride - wouldnt happen these days would it; smell cash...]
You should try to get this geezer to pay for your damages mate - sounds like he was a courier so he has at least a £50 a day income...

I've just done an online cycle insurance quote, it covers the bike from theft and damage, plus £100,000 personal liability, for damage caused by the rider to third parties.
£23.00 a year.
Surely this should be made compulsory? I bet 9 out of 10 cyclists at fault that cause damage to cars/persons get off without paying a penny.

you should try driving a bus around london! they are a bloody nightmare. Leave a 1 ft gap from the kerb and yip straight up it! Trying to pass them its bloody hard too only 35ft to get past em. Have you counted the number at night without lights? Those using the pedestrian crossings? Those that cycle straight through a red light? Rant Over, i f-ing hate them.

They neeeeeever hold up traffic do they? Not one of that lot has ever been a fat bloke.
What's wrong with cyclists? Are you fighting the stirring in your loins when you see a set of tight bum cheeks?

No I can't resist any longer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! got to sound off
Cyclists, Whilst agreeing that it is a healthy. cheap method of getting around I come into contact (not literally) with cyclists on a number of occassions, most you give a wide berth and treat with respect and caution but there are a number of times I have been travelling on the A19 between Middlesborough and the Thirsk exit and there are cycle races taking place (they set off 10 minutes apart) there we (motoring public) are travelling along 70 - 75 mph when every 1/4 mile we encounter a cyclist on the inside lane traveling at 10 - 15 MPH, many a time I've seen people, not expecting this type of slow traffic slamming anchors on or taking avoiding action. It's only a matter of time before either a cyclist and motorist are killed or a multiple accident occurs. When a HGV encounters the riders who are spread out over 10 miles it certainly does slow the traffic down.
There I feel better now.

And lets not forget the distress they cause by wiggling a spandex-covered **** in your face at eye level they whole time you're trying to get past them.
I still think they should be made to have number plates and insurance.

How did I guess that this thread would turn into this??
Thanks guys and girls for all your replies.
Too many to reply to individually, though some replies were absolute gems and echoed my sentiments of cyclists(or cyclist singular as someone pointed out) as a whole.I could have had a real go at the *******, since they are not accountable, show total disregard for other road users, have miles of cycle lanes(however badly designed they are , they are pure cycle lanes at the end of the day), they jump red lights, they cycle down roads the wrong way, etc etc.
But i wont !!
Had too many run-in's with loony cyclists to count and each time I have been classed as the wrong party, so I suppose it was only a matter of time before I hit one or one hit me...
Could be a lot more laid back about the whole thing, but it is just not on and so after reading a lot of your sensible and not so sensible replies, I have decided to take the guy to the cleaners and have issued legal proceedings against him
Whether I get any joy or monetery reimbursement remains to be seen
I will keep you all informed as to the outcome
ta very much u lot

I ride a bike to the station and since passing my cycling proficiency test back in 1968, I still ride accordingly. But I agree that a sizeable minority of cyclists are a dangerous menace and car drivers need to give them a wide berth.
