I have a feeling that in 2006 there will be quite a few pissed off STi & WR1 owners if this is the case.
I can't believe the 377bhp claim, in fact I'd be very surprised if they produced a PPP with more power than the WR1, afterall that is supposed to be the flagship UK Impreza.

I wouldn' be too surprised if we see a 2.5 turbo with about 330bhp at the end of 2006 or in the new shape model in 2007.

Right now it IS the flagship Impreza... and will be so until the new flagship comes out Isn't it nice that things don't stand still forever?

UK flag ships

Caytaluna
Terzo
RB5
P1
UK300
STi7 ( Best looking LTD edition Bugeye IMHO) not Bais really
WR1

Each newer version has super-ceeded the next and the UK340 will do the same

as for the fiqures more likely to be with a 2.5ltr UK versions 340bhp and with PPP 377bhp

Yeah well obviously at some point the WR1 will be overtaken on the power front by another car, what I was getting at was that I find it highly unlikely that a 377bhp version will be in our showrooms by this time next year given that the WR1 is so new.

It's good to gossip about but I can't see it happening

If we're being pedantic, you forgot the 22B as well! Many would argue that was the 'flagship' classic Impreza just as the WR1 is currently the flagship new shape car (for the UK at least).

As long as we dont get a 2.5 with the small valve head US Stylee (SIGH) I suspect we might.

Although not available through dealers, there are plenty of companies, doing 2.5 conversions that are WALKING effortlessly past 400/400.

If done correctly, even the 2.0L STi (as STi's seem to be what we're talking about here) will manage serious power hikes safely (if you know what you're doing).

My STi 7 is running over 450/370 at the moment and that doesn't seem to be bothering the OEM clutch yet either?
FQ 400, maybe we shoud re-name our T3 kit as the FO450?

Role on.

Anybody else awaiting their new prodrive wheels ?
Subaru dont need to compete with Mitsubishi, considering there is a 20k difference between the fq400 and the STi's with PPP.
As for a PPP with more power, Mike Wood has already stated that the MY05 PPP is at 305ps, the same as previous years.

Personally rather than massive power hikes I'd prefer if they sorted the handling out to match the Evo. All STis post classic have had inferior handling characteristics to equivalent Evos. If you drive an Evo back to back with a sorted STi the latter feels heavy unwieldy and inaccurate. Most car reviews reflect this inc the recent Car(?) PCOTY with the WR1 against the MR340.

True, except now the scoob actually is better in the handling department over the evo
The Spec C showed Subaru the way to go, no understeer on turn in, better grip from the RE070 tyres (plus harder sidewalls so less flex), and these revisions, along with Yaw control have put Subaru infront (thus why all new STi's have Spec C geometry and A-DCCD).
The WR1 as has been stated by Prodrive, isnt a track car, so they went for the Pirelli tyres for road use, there is more flex in these so the car will understeer, but put a new STi v evo 260 and i think the difference will be made more clearer

Your having a laugh, there is no UK spec Impreza coming straight from the dealers that could *ever* match the handling of the latest EVO's.

Why do you think people spend loads of £'s getting the handling put right on Impreza's ? EVO drivers don't have to do this.

The Spec C is a limited edition car, you cannot base the EVO v Impreza on this, how about a MR FQ300 v STi05 with a PPP, guaranteed the Lancer would win around a *track*

Danny, ALL new STi's come with the Spec C setup now, ie all the geometry changes, and the A-DCCD, plus the RE070 tyres, they now beat the evo at their own game, as the JDM cars have done for the last couple of years.

Is this an April's fool joke?

If its true you really do have to laugh... everytime i think "yep lets get the STI cause its now got DCCD" they go and move the goalposts AGAIN

The 05 STI is better than the EVO I am lucky enough to have had the choice of either EVO 8 or STI and I choose the STI. It is the better car.

groundhog day anyone??

anyway, my dads bigger than your dad

there are message boards like this one, where everyone has an opinion based on what they think

then there are factual tests, where the evo always wins hands down on handling, untill there are some factual tests showing the stis being faster than an evo, i would say the evo has to be better handling car.

just wanted to add that i love both, and always lookin whats new, might get a new subaru, might stay with evo who knows

from my experience btw, i have owned both, evo wins hands down

EVO is just cr*p inside compared to a Subaru. It may be faster but it isnt better.

It's each to their own. I test drove both the Subaru and the Mitsubishi and bought the Scoob.

Am I mistaken in thinking that the only 'UK' Evo is the 260??

If so, then shouldn't the higher spec Evos be compared with the JDM cars?!

Beastie there is a big, big difference between o4 and 05 it is at long last a scooby that can compete with the EVO. I admit that up until 05 there was no competition but they are now an equal.

Mike, how many miles have the >400/400 2.5 cars done running that performance level? I've had 2.5 engines in my daily hack for a year and about 18000 miles now, and keeping them reliable at over 400 BHP isn't to my mind signed, sealed and delivered in the long term yet. Nice power band, shame about the headgasket popping propensity when you push them for about 8000 miles from what I've seen....
