New STi 377?????????

I have both the evo 6 and a scooby. I must say that the evo 6 is a far better car. There are people running 1.6 bar of boost on standard internals and as far as im aware someone is running 2bar with standard internals. You can get 360 bhp on a evo6 with simple mods .i was told so many times from companies that serviced scoobys that i should get a evo6 so i did.one particular company said, if it was not for the unreliable scooby engines we would be out of business.Anyway everyone has there own opinion thats mine. You cant beat that flat four for sound, it comes top on that.

Seems you need educating then..
From EVO Oct 2003
Strip Club
CSL, GT3 and Impreza Spec C; three quite different cars linked by a common philosophy - each is the most finely honed, most tightly focused driver's car its maker produces. We compare them on road and track
October 2003
M3 CSL v 911 GT3 v Impreza STi Spec C
Wheres the EVO then????

And look in the back of EVO and which car gets their vote as the best sporting saloon?? Spec C of course.
I think you're not the only one mis-informed Jason - there are plenty of others on here that are quick to jump on the bandwagon to say that EVO's are better than Scoobies - full stop... My question to you all though is...
...have any of you actually driven either car??????
...have any of you actually driven either car??????
@AAron B, i dont disagree, i still like scoobs and feel there wouldnt be too much in it,with good drivers in both although the evo would win, each time i see scoobs and evos on track at same time, i usually see evo drivers scratching their heads asking if the scoobs were in reverse!! lol
personally like i said, i like both cars, but just feel the evo is more precise and more power, my car reliably running over 400bhp on standard engine to whoever mentioned that.
lots of valid points above from chris and that spec c testing on the ring! dont think they have ever tested an evo like that, but do you honestly beleive the spec c would be that much quicker? i dont really think so...

Blah blah blah, jus like a load of old mwomen out of last of the summers wine! Shut up and drive whatever car you own, it dont matter whos faster. You dont need 400 horses to have fun, a quiet wet b road does it for me every time! Bought my scoob for engine, just like the sound, alfa romeo designed a good engine! It's different and distinctive, doesnt matter how reliable/unreliable it is and how much power you can squeeze out of it before it bursts. If you want loads of raw power go buy a small block american sports car then nothin will keep up with you in a straight line!!!!!!!!

My O5 STI is better than a 360 Challenge Stradale. their is no scooby with the same power to weight ratio as a evo that beats an evo
only one that did beat a 300 bhp evo was the c type , c type let me tell u was 100 kg lighter, it had 25 to 30 bhp more and 25 ft to 30 ft torque more than the evo
evo with the same power to weight ratio would have surely kicked it ***, it wasnt even a fair fight

Honestly, If we could afford an Evo we would be there in a split second.
Unfortunately, with a budget of £19000 we could not, so instead it was an 03 bugeye Impreza WRX, and a grand and a half to spare.
How much is the bottom spec evo?
That is why Subaru sell so many more cars over here. It's power to weight to money, not just power to weight.
The Evo may be a better car though.

I had enough money to buy an evo, before my first scoob, i bought the scoob (new car v 4 year old evo 4, hard decision but havnt looked back since ) then changing my scoob i had enough for an evo again, yet i bought another scoob, this time a JDM Twin scroll turbo car, and i have to say that it is better than the evo, no if's and no but's.
The only official Euro Evo car is the 260, all the rest are JDM imports (FQ's and MR's are based on Jap only models), so unless you compare like for like you will find that the euro cars are lacking, but at this moment in time, Subaru are on top of the game in Japan and have been for a few years (plus we dont need gimicks to try to get people to buy Scoobs )

your opinion is that subaru is "on top of the game" for the last few years and of course thats ok, however everyone else thinks different, sorry to pop ur bubble. You just keep stamping your feet and repeating yourself without any evidence, not sure if you think after youve gone enough, people are just gonna start saying "ok Tony is right, subarus are on top of evos now" I dont get your point at all??

Well, honestly gents, I believe the difference is in the diffs. Mitsu's SAYC and clever yaw sensors are way ahead of subaru. Unless the 05 model has managed to crack it (which i doubt) we'll be looking at evos and dreaming of them for a long time. On the other hand, I don't think many Impreza owners are crying at night in bed for having chosen a scooby over a mitsu. There are far worse things one can do, and I assure you if you think the STi is a crude ride and an unrefined one that drinks too much fuel, thats because you haven't got an Evo.
At this opportunity, I'd like to quote the bood "you and your evo" in saying:
"The third fastest dial in the instrument cluster is the fuel gauge, which plumets with sickening speed"

£20k isn't £17.5k though is it? With now fishind around, just from the local dealer. We could have easily got under £17k if we had wanted to fish further away.
£20k is all about fishing.

IMO, the Subaru is a far better looking car all round. With flared arches and testosterone packed profile, the 'Lancer' pales in to insignificance. And as for those tacky rear clusters and wide boy spoiler... Yuk!
Now in the cabin the Scoob is no Audi, but IMO the Lancer cabin oozes tacky, naff quality and a bland setting for what is effectively a rollercoaster ride! For me, this was another reason not to buy a Mitsu.
I've just recently bought a used MY02 STi Type UK Prodrive (would never buy new due to depreciation) and at the time I also looked at Evo's as I could afford to. But when I considered the overall balance of the car (and looks are important) I just new that anything less than scoob woudl not hit the mark. For me, the grin factor doesn't only come from going through the twisties whilst trying to hit the I/C spray, it's the whole package and the Evo just doesn't cut the mustard.
Anyway, just my tuppence worth...
Ed

Jason,
Its already been proven in Japan that the Subaru is now a better car, damn even the evo owners are saying so (id do a search on MLR if i were you) as from the 7 onwards mitsubishi lost the plot, and then you will get those who compare the FQ400 against a Spec C, of course the major difference is that the Spec C can actually do what it says on the tin, and is about 18k cheaper, so just for the fact its being compared to the creme of the evo crop shows that you need modified evos to do much against one
If you want the proof of which is the quicker a-b, just look at the latest incarnation of the Spec C, under 8 mins around nurburgring, audi need a 450bhp+ car to do that and mitsubishi havnt even tried as they know that they cant do it in the RS.
Take your blinkers off, evo's have dropped off the pace and are now behind Subaru

Take a look at this month's EVO mag (ecoty 2004 edition), sure enough the Type 25 comes out on top over the MR-340...
Great quote from EVO's Martin Buckley "... I don't really get the rice burner thing, but of the Evo and the Impreza the latter included the highest levels of terror, which is ultimately the point of the exercise with these things isn't it?"
I know the Type 25 (@ £34k) isn't a production car and that Ian Litchfield has taken aftermarket dealer packages to another level, but if you do the sums pound for pound against the Evo (@ £33k), I know where my money would be every time...
Oh, by the way, even the Golf GTi and Mini Cooper S beat the Evo - Ha! Ha!
All in the name of good humour and tasteful banter,
Ed

Tony you really are not comparing like for like are you, I would never compare the fq400 against a spec c, however I am pretty sure you can compare a standard rs version 8 to a totally standard spec c, there wont be much in it, a standard gsr to a standard jdm car there wont be much in it, then bring in the modifying options, see ya later scooby doo, not enough choices on subaru.
And ed,
hardly fair what you are comparing although I do like the type 25, have driven it and i know Iain has put alot into it, we have nothing to compare it to, although im pretty sure if Iain took a basic gsr and then added the same package, he could reliably come up with something very similar with more power and ability. My daily driver evo has 420bhp and 420lbft@3500rpm and has cost me less than 32kish and was brand new however cant really compare due to warranty issues and so on.
In all seriousness I must be feeling mellow this morning lol, I really do like both cars, I would have another scooby (hope no one is reading lol) I always said they are both great cars, I just think the evo is slightly more capable and has alot more options for tuning.
Why dont we setup a trackday for next year? scoobynet/mlr?? any takers?? just out of the name of fun of course

Thing stopping me changing to a newer Scooby or Evo is the extra weight, doesn't sound like much but it would be the equivalent to needing a 2.2-2.4 litre engine for the same powerband as the 2.0 on the lighter earlier cars. If there was a cheap and robust enlarged capacity engine to move the extra weight with good low down torque and power I would do it.
However, for the Scooby, the 2.5 whilst cheap, is not so far proven to be robust in standard form for going over 450 BHP. For the Evo, you are into quite long stroke engines to get the capacity, and if you want them strong it costs. Evo's stock turbo seems to go up to about 380 BHP which is an advantage.
A track day is not the place to decide which road car you want. Whilst having likely less weight, more power and similar torque to your car Jason, I'm sure you would probably outdrive me on a track, or it would be more down to tyres/setup/compromises etc. Doesn't mean I would want your car, good I am sure it is though.
I don't agree that it can be said that one car is simply "better" than the other!

Can I just say something...........as much as I love the T25 I would always buy an MR 340 first......why you ask.....well it is a production car with an Official 3 Year Warranty and a fairly defined re-sale value.
Who knows what a used T25 will fetch
But I still bought a WR1

Funny thread I've said it before but anyone that has invested a large amount of their money in either an Evo or Scoob is always going to defend the purchase decission to the last. You'll end up going round in circles
Arron I have some wheels and tyres for you, give me a call. Oh and I sold a 9,000mile used T25 the other day for £32,995
