Paul,
Yes the clutch was given plenty of time to bed in. Car had done 1500+ of running in before it was used in anger. Boost and rpm had been limited but not so low as to prevent the clutch bedding in. I am certain that the clutch was not contaminated during installation.
Cheers,
Callum
Edited to say that I find the "competitive" spirit between you amusing

lol indeed.
I have a little way to catch up with Andy at the moment. But no doubt I will, only to find Andy has moved on, on the very same day (this has happened twice already!).
Callum,
I found my clutch wasn't fully bedded in even after numerous drag starts and quite a lot of abuse. It's an AP 4 paddle item with the standard AP cover, yet it holds 500ft-lb of torque. You can't really slip it hard though or it judders like crazy, as Andy will confirm! Exedy twin plate is the aim for me.
Besides, I will need to slip the clutch when launching with the GT42R.

Paul,
Many thanks for the advice which I take on board. I guess I am fortunate that the decision was taken out of my hands as Matt was driving at the time and he is more than capable of "abusing" the clutch a little if he thought that it would help bed it in

HI Callum : Sorry to hear you have had a bit of bad luck with the slipping clutch.
Back on topic. The clutch Callum was using was an AP Twin Plate 7 3/4" Organic. In OE form this is a 22B clutch rated at 480 nm. This was uprated for RCMS to a quoted 550nm. The clutch now going in is an OS Giken Twin Plate as used in Halldor's car and originally tried in the Calder Race vehicle.
For 400 ft.lbs there should be no problem with the AP Racing Organic Uprated single plate clutch and I believe this is actually made by Exeddy and branded AP. Perhaps David at API Engines or Olly at RCMS can confirm this.
I use one of these AP single plate clutches for about 20000 miles before I ripped out the centre at Bruntingthorpe but there was virtually no wear on the friction material and slip was never an issue. The replacement did about 13000 miles before it was removed along with the flywheel and put in the WRX where it also performed well.

Good to hear from you again!
I am confused by your figures so much so that I called Simon this morning. It looks like my figures were wrong in my second post of this thread, i.e. 550ft/lbs - this was from my apparently bad memory but according to his parts spec the clutch I fitted was rated at at 508ft/lbs or 689NM. Slightly unusual figures for a rating but they are certainly closer to what I expected than the 405ft/lbs or 550NM that you suggest?
No matter what I am now looking forward to trying the OS & to the next session with Bob
Catch up with you soon.
Cheers,
Callum

Hi Callum : Let me know when you are coming down next and if you need a stop over.
The 480nm for the 22b clutch O/E came from Questmead last week, when I was researching where to go with a clutch for myself. They would get AP to uprate it for me. On comparing notes with Matt, before I gave the go ahead he then told me that AP had uprated 22b twin plate clutches for them to 550nm, one being for your car. This was only last week, and I thought it strange we had both gone down the same route independently. Anyway Matt had been working on this for the last 8 mths but it now looks like I too, will go with the O.S. Giken solution unless anyone cares to advise on a more cost effective solution.
However as I already said, for 400 ft/lbs I would go with the AP, single plate, uprated organic and this will be in the Exedy line up so there are savings to be had.

Hi Harvey, Certainly will let you know when we're heading south, would be good to meet up again. Hope your latest project comes together soon. Giken clutch should be going in late next week then the plan is to map again early in the new year.
Cheers,
Callum

as has been said before, and I dont like using the old cliche, but my clutch has been holding around 500 of each for a while now and is almosyt completely normal to use on the road from day to day.
(bought from lateral performance, so I am sure mark can tell you what it is.
I think it was the same one that andy f but changed it because it was probably slipping at his output!
Unless there is another reson why it hasnt been recommended.

Possibly because Mark wouldn't supply it with a power/torque rating. It worked for you, didn't work for me at a similar output.
How long have you had the car at 500/500 Adam ? and what sort of driving has it had in the middle of London
You need to try half a dozen back to back full bore launches on a grippy surface with sticky tyres, followed by flat out acceleration runs to 140mph such as you may do on a track/drag day, then comment on its performance.
FWIW, Mark is unable to supply me with a new friction disc for this clutch, he needs the original back for relining
