The one that I HATE is people who say pacifically instead of specifically - I pacifically told him....

If you read my original post, you will see I was talking about "proven" as a past participle. It is true of course that it is an accepted adjective. There is a significant difference. I probably should have mentioned that.
You can call me picky of course, but I just don't like seeing the English language ruined and diluted by the use of incorrect words and phrases or americanisms.

But English is one of the great mongrel languages of the world. It's not like French or German or Chinese or Greek etc. It's a terrible mix and constantly changes. English has been spoken on these shores for a thousand years or more, but you wouldn't be able to understand someone if you went back a thousand years, and someone a thousand years from now certainly wouldn't understand you.

I think there are lots of bright young chaps who spend their lives trying to think up more clever expressions to impress their bosses or whatever. Business speak is the most irritating of the lot.
I don't take much notice of poems Jason, they always seem to go a bit peculiar with words.

I recently swapped desks with our facilities manager who is, amongst other things, responsible for the office cleaning contractors. It seems the cleaners haven't realised this yet and keep leaving the comments book on my desk.
Having just had a read through it I cannot believe the level of illiteracy that is still present in some people, and these are relatively young people!

I was in a restaurant the other day and got subjected to a group of yanks next to me going, "and I was like", "and the guy was like", "and I'm like...etc.etc". I agree. Most irritating, and that load of **** "Friends" is largely responsible.
