The problem will be undoing all the damage the current wally and his mates have done.

Not at all, I'll do a lot of paperwork away from the station (witness statements, stop checks etc).

I just can't see which paperwork you can get rid of with out having a consequence on either the victims (domestics etc), court files or on the incidents theselves (investigations etc)

Forgot to mention

We do something similar now - called stop-check forms, similar to stop-search only we don't search. Take a similar length of time to complete. A while ago the set-up at the station changed which freed up more time to do stop-checks. So we started stop-checking nearly everyone that moves in a high crime area. So we knew where the criminals were, who they were with, what they were wearing etc. They were also lock-ups for going equipped etc. This put the criminal off balance and give us valuable intelligence on them. The result was a massive decrease in crime in the areas and a lot of miffed criminals who feel that they can't walk the street without being harassed.

So, the Tory’s can get rid of this if they wish, but I feel it has been quite valuable so far.

Felix,

Thanks for the info - it's really interesting to hear from those on the front line so as to speak that some things do actually seem to be working.

Regards,

tiggers.

So every MFH now requires a full report and risk assessment which has then got to be authorised and checked by an Inspector before circulating onto PNC. All enquiries done so far have to be included on the report and the report is updated as soon as any information is found. A handover pack is then created for each shift that comes on.

What has the Wells and Chapman murders got to do with it. No police procedure would have stopped that as he'd never previously been found guilty of anything.

Got to love SN NSR - just about the only place where the keyboard 'experts' seem to know better how something affects someone's job than the person actually doing that job

Here's a good bit of labour policy for you.

At the moment, if I arrest someone for an offence and have sufficient evidence, I can charge them with that offence, regardless of whether they admit it or not. They are then either kept in custody until court the following day or bailed to attend court. Now, the poor old CPS, don't like this, because it means that the courts are full of people who all plead not guilty, forcing them to have to do some work. It also means that they might not win all their cases, so will mess up their prosecution stats.
So from January next year, apart from a few minor motoring offences and section 5 public order, the CPS want to decide whether an offender should be charged.

Good idea, I hear you all say. Well, the problem is this. The so-called on call CPS lawyer is notoriously difficult to track down and what should be a five minute decision can take hours. So this means that most criminals will be bailed to return to the police station at a later date. It means that I will have to chase up CPS and carry an enourmous workload, that could have been dealt with immediately. So just a bit more bureacracy to keep me off the streets. The government has made it clear that they want to bring in trial without jury. Well this system is just trial without bothering to go to court, because it might mean a bit of work.

For those of you not in the slightest bit interested in my rant....heed this. Come next year, when you catch some toe-rag breaking into your car and duly hand him over to the Police, don't be surprised if it all gets dropped. But just remember that it will be the Criminals Protection Society that let him go and not the police

But the police will still get the blame as usual as is always the case at the front line.

Just seen Blair in news saying hes going to cut down on drugs. So allow it on one hand yet clamp down on it with the other.

Who cares about the Tories??

They are the 3rd party and unlikely to be elected whilst the greatest leader of modern times holds the key to Number 10!!

I'm sure he's even less comfortable with the fact that the self appointed NSR keyboard hero seems to know more about his job/mental status than he does (even if said 'hero' still hasn't learnt to spell)!

Imsbman

There is a CPS number to dial for 'out-of-hours' decisions. Simply fax over the statements etc and they fax back their decision.....simple.

We have had this system at our station for 6 months now and it does work quite well.

Dont think so. Just fed up with people asking how they can find this, that or whatever because their too bloody lazy to do it themselves.

Talking of cutting bureaucracy, in this digital age, why (under Labour) have our driving licenses doubled in size and are now two part, V5 forms have sprouted additional pages and the new "digitally logged" MOT certificates are reputedly bigger. Why are they giving out MOT certificates AT ALL if the tests are stored electronically!

More needless paper! Why??
