So I must be a chav - I have nice/expensive things and I enjoy showing people them and telling them if I got a bargain / good value.
I don't wear burberry, or von chav, or tops with big logos, or white trainers.
Am I missing something ?

If you read what happened to Courts, the Cohen family single-handedly fooked up what was essentially a sound business. Writing off millions for "unwanted" furniture isn't the way to make a profitable business, and a fast-track route to putting a 154 year old franchise out in the cold. Hopefully if the brand is bought out they'll stop resorting to tacky adverts, bring back a bit of sound managemental direction and put Courts back on the affordable furniture map again....

So if you earn a lot of money - you shouldn't aspire to a better lifestyle for yourself ?
If you won the lottery - would yo still shop for furniture in DFS and Courts because you thought they were good value ?
Everyone including tel, did this after leaving school, unless they had some sort of inherited wealth.
Would your friends still like you, seems that most of the people I know are quite happy to be your friend until you are doing better in life than them.
This goes for a lot of people I know, who left school and became better educated than others, got a good job and money then people are like -
"who does he think he is"

Nothing wrong with earning lots of money and buying nice things.
Telling everyone on the planet that you earn lots of money/buy nice things is the problem, especially on here recently

PS if I won the lottery I would still buy food at Asda, Games from Play.com and still keep an eye out for bargains.
I'm a big believer in value for money, and hate being ripped off. Give me a bar that sells bottle of lager at £1 a pop and i'll buy everyone here a bottle, show me a bar that charges £4 a pop and I wont go near it

For its own sake, i completely agree, DW. But if people want to start "High-end Hi-Fi" threads, or whatever, what are we supposed to do, discuss in "so i've heard" terms all the time? It's a difficult line to draw, i agree, but how else do you address it?

I'm not aiming this at any thread or person in particular, just noticed a few "my ***** bigger than yours" statements recently thats all.
Nothing can be done, "bbs imitates life" so to speak. I prefer subtlety

Ok, fair enough.
Subtelty is key, no doubt, but hopefully that can still be maintained whilst discussing openly and objectively...

The problem with Courts is there buildings round here keep catching fire.
3 times in the last 4 yrs
There new head office was burnt to ther ground about a year ago, Then there tempoary building goes up in smoke not long after.
Never shopped there, funnly enough so could comment on the quality. Sad though they started off in Canterbury all those years ago.
