Hi soulgirl, sorry to hear what happened. A while ago i had my car 'keyed' in Charminster which pee'd me off so i can understand a little of what is running round your head. Just a point to your earlier 'accuser', if there was cctv like stated then the man or woman would be seen to be going over to your vehicle, so regardless of the woman saying 'she did this she did that' to make you appear to be a liar, the fact is she would have been seen causing criminal damage by cctv (or the bloke). basically, regardless of what happened previously, you neither assaulted her or her car, she (or him) did! let the buggers get it and good luck SG.

I am waiting for the police to retrieve the CCTV film. I emailed the station yesterday to remind them to be mindful of the time limit that videos are kept so they are contacting B&Q today... hey ho

Quick update...

Police couldn't do anything with the tape so the perpurtrator has got away with it unless I spot them out and about.

Got two quotes in already and boy - do they differ!

1. from ATP £2231.00 including 2 new doors and respray
2. from Woodville Stretton £1497.19 including 2 new door skins

Im now waiting on a quote from Darracotts - insurance company's official associate and also from Extreme Body Works in Winton... they did one of my old cars and it was a fantastic job @ quarter of the price quoted by Olympian at the time.

Soul Girl:

Just out of curiosity, why couldn't the poice do anything with the tape...did it not provide a clear view of the culprits?

Would B&Q let you post an "incident notice" on a billboard in the shop? You never know, some kind soul may have seen something and might pass on the info. Long shot, I know, but it's a shot to nothing!

Aside from the unpleasant financial implications for you, this is a serious matter; criminal damage is exactly that -criminal- and the offenders should be punished as a matter of principle!

Best wishes,

The financial burden is nothing in comparison really. The 'bashing' incident wasn't caught on camera, only the offenders vehicles, and they couldn't make out the registration marks.

I will certainly learn from my mistake... next time, I shall just walk up calmly and shoot the fannyflap between the eyes#

I'm sure I don't have to advise that the above statement was purely theatrical in nature

I contacted our local rag, the Bournemouth Echo, and because I would not pose in a photo pointing at the damage, they didn't want to know. Obviously not as exciting!

Maybe the application of high res cameras is limited to areas where the police and scameraships can make a tidy profit. Terrible. So sorry that you have to stump up.

One of our local papers has a "shop a yob" section. It usually consists of fuzzy CCTV obtiained from the back of buses. The footage would be inadequate for a prosecution, but might be good enough to jog someone's memory. Do any of your local papers have such a section? Are you entitled to a copy of the footage?

Here's a thought: agree to the Echo's terms, but don't pose yourself, get a *really* big guy to pretend he was the owner! Make sure he looks very angry, and include relevant biographical details such as "bodybuilder, doorman, has form for GBH etc..." Also make sure the article makes reference to the fact that he was furious at the damage and would like to *ahem* ask the guilty party why they did it (sniggers)

If they're reading that paper I doubt they'll ever show their face in the local B&Q again!

Best wishes,

Sorry to see this, you seem remarkably cool about it, that takes some doing.

Me, I would be doing house to house searches within a 50 mile radius, not that I harbor a grudge or anything

Well, after all, if I hadn't have lost my cool in the first place and screamed like a stupid banshee, this would never have happened. I hate hormones...

If it was just the doors damaged why not try and source a pair of doors in Silver from a breakers such as grade A etc. It will be a dam sight cheaper I expect than having a bodyshop repair the doors you currently have. This way you may keep your NCD intact and only have to shell out a few hundred instead of putting in a claim for over £1K, plus excess and loss of NCD.

I have protected NCB blueone but thanks for your concern It's a closed case - the police couldn't use the CCTV footage unfortunately. I have learned my lesson not to run up to cars like a screaming banshee.... from now on, I will walk calmly over to the offender and shoot them
