Pete ,
fssh is only any good to the correct type of person your selling to...
remember as you said it will be a ten year old car!!!
selling to a main dealer..
just means they cant offer the lowest crap they would... however you still dont have any bargaining power, the dealer will still send it straight to auction..
dealers dont want old cars!!!!
selling to a trader..
They dont want 10 year old cars.. the fssh may help, but its still an old car, which in theory needs somebig money spent on it..
selling private....
test pilots only want to know if the oils been changed, the cam belt done and how fast will it go mister!!!
and before you fire up...
i had the same scenario with the wifes car, the main dealer actually told me it was time to start looking for a new car, because it was 10 years old..
************

fssh (up to the big one cos i,m not paying that ******)

other,
car has been owned by mature owner ( smokes pipe, drinks cheap wine & has large dog)
offers commesurate with marque ( i want £16,000, cos thats what i payed)

In reality he's nothing like it, otherwise they wouldn't have done what they did to his car and neither would he be still taking it to a main dealers.
If he talked as good in real life as he attempts on a keyboard then the garage would be totally aware of who he was and done the job properly.
Wallflower Lewis.
Oh and what a classic calling JF a dork, it kind of sums up Píssy a treat after his recent outing.

Like I said the old mechanic was great and the apprentice was perfectly ok - the fact that they handed my car back in pieces was the issue (and it was addressed at the time with them)

With the 4 wheel drive system it isn't possible to 'spin' the suspect wheel/bearing to detect roughness/rumble within the bearing, so other than physically strip the bearing from the hub, the 4 wheel post and driving the wheels with the engine is the the most reliable method.
When I had mine checked mine, I sat in the car on the 4 post lift, driving with the roadwheels going at a fair rate of knots, and my hero mechanic gets hold of each strut in turn , to 'feel' for bearing rumble.
It looks a bit dangerous, but is really the simplest and most accurate method.

I thought I read somewhere that you had to be careful about running the car with wheels off the ground? Thats why I was concerned.
