Why? Do you suddenly become a rank amateur when you get out of your cab and into your car?

If everyone causing hold-ups - including the truckers and the car drivers - were more sensible, NO-ONE would need to leave 10 minutes earlier.

This isn't something caused by just one set of road users. There are car drivers out there just as guilty as some of the truck drivers. I can't wait for the day when ALL selfish drivers are targeted - if we gave three points for lane hogging we'd have clear roads in next to no time. And I bet Scooby-Si's immature approach to road use would change pretty quick, too, if his license was under threat - which it would be.

No I continue to be a professional as that's what I was trained to be. A professional driver, not A driver that was trained to pass a test. Ive said many times before if ALL road users were trained to the standard of HGV drivers then the roads would be a safer place.

Likewise motorbike ridres usually make good car drivers as they have a complete awareness of all that is happening around them.

I,m not saying that all car drivers are bad at all just that there are as a percentage more bad car drivers than truck drivers.

So why the sarcastic response??? I agree with you, I just don't like being bundled in with crap car drivers any more that I like being bundled in with crap truck drivers.

You highlight one of my pet hates. I assume a trucker is going to drive professionally until he proves otherwise (but for my own safety I'm always aware of the possibility he may do so). Why do you have to assume a car driver is NOT going to drive professionally until he proves otherwise?

I wasnt trying to be sarcastic. I agree that most car drivers are responsible drivers. But as I clearly stated they are taught to pass a test and not drive to HGV standard which I also staed should be the case. An HGV training course teaches you roadcraft as does the IAM training whick in my mind should apply to all not just those in what is really just a bigger vehicle and not a lot else.

thats over 1.000.000kms + car use and not 1 point now thats got to be good driving

go back to driving your FLT ffs before you realy **** some 1 off

and if you read back you will see i dont lane hog due to my speed

why dont you go out driving at night and you can have all 2/3 lanes to your self then you dont need to moan

Sounds like we're in total agreement

I have to do an hour with an instructor every 2 years (among other requirements, like a medical that includes an eyesight check) just to keep my pilots license. Why can't we have all drivers doing something similar - say, every 4 years? All this focus on 'unsafe' roads and ignoring the unsafe drivers really grates with me!

Translating for the sake of the wider audience:

"How many points have you had and how many miles have you driven in the last ten years? I've done 100,000 miles a year, not including my car use, and have acquired no points. The total is over 600,000 miles, not including the car, and I believe that getting no points in that distance is proof I'm a good driver.

I suggest you stick to driving your [can someone translate 'FLT', please]. I will stick to driving my truck dangerously fast.

If you drive at night you are welcome to lane hog"

As someone who works with truck drivers on a daily basis I was hoping to find some reasoned discussion in here debating the point....

PS FLT usually = Fork Lift Truck

No probs mate. Me and Scooby-Si are probably heading down the same road! Perhaps I should start yet another thread?

Have a good one...

heres 1 for you to work out

27.000.000 cars on the road

500.000 wagons

these are approx figures

so wot you are saying is that 500,000 wagons hold up 27,000,000 cars, i think not.

Your figures are meaningless unless you adjust for distance and speed.

0.5m trucks that do an average of 150k miles a year, 27m cars doing 10k miles a year. Trucks travelling at 2/3 the speed of the cars (except when the cars are stuck behind them, of course):

0.5*(150/10)*1/(2/3)=11.25m

But you don't need the sums, just look in your mirrors when you're taking 10 miles to overtake.

Look, you're never going to justify either your dangerous driving or your selfish driving to me. Both are utterly unacceptable and the sooner you either grow up or get penalised for them and taken off the road, the better IMHO.

The same goes for the lane-hogging cars, too.

Why do you say his driving is dangerous and selfish. Are you secretly opining for an HGV licence

Already got the full license, Chip. I'll paste in the quotes from Scooby-Si below.

Great idea - but the chances of it working are minimal.

Trucks, if going quicker than another truck, will overtake.

Thank God he's gone, I didn't think I'd get the mindless joining in when I started this thread!

Many thanks to all those nice car, truck, coach and van drivers who used their mirrors effectively this morning It must be Christmas coming or something. I can't remember the last time I had a run like it
