New Clutch for MY98
#36
Hello Sam, I also run a 98 WRX (EU Spec). I think my clutch is not what it used to be anymore however it still holds the power I believe. Anyway what I wanted to say, I just bought a SYMS Racing Metal Clutch. I will be fitting it in about a month so let you know about the result later. But I believe that's a great clutch as it is JDM ; )
I also use the SYMS Flywheel which is 4,2 KG. The oem is about double the weight.
That means that the engine doesn't need to turn as hard as with the oem wheel to spool up which results in slightly better response ( they sey like a motorbike) however the downside you will lose torque!
Cheers Chris

I'll vouch for the API exedy clutch, had one fitted (along with a lightened flywheel) to my 22b and its really nice in traffic (you do need a few more revs coz of the flywheel) and takes all the torque my car puts out (around 300ft/lb) with ease.

I had major problems with an Exedy Group N Exedy clutch assay, supplied by a Subaru UK dealer for my Import ... they forgot / / hadn't got one to hand ( choose excuse ) /refused to change flywheel, I had terrible judder until I had flywheel changed a few months later, found Exedy clutch was wrecked - overheated, gouged, high spots etc. and had to get an AP Racing Organic.
Been superb ever since. Not sure if it was the Widnes Subaru Dealer ( likely!! ) in error, or the clutch assay, but as Subaru Dealer refunded costs ... you decide!
Exedy I was told was 330 lbft rated, AP Racing Organic was 350 lbft rated.
