We will either see "Abu Hamza's" getting off saying they were joking, or comedians being banged up for making jokes, and lets face it.... comedians are an easier target than hook-weilding, explosive clad religious nutters!

I haven't seen anything in that story that says you won't be able to make fun of religion. If it banned Rowan Atkinson from making any more crap "Mr Bean" films, by which he has been able to make millions world wide by making English people look like a bunch of idiots, then I would be all for it.

That is it - there is no more substance to it than that.
If you can't see that then maybe it is not me who is being naive.

i dont know whether this would fall into the catagory of religion PC but...
on the American dollar, it states "IN GOD WE TRUST"
could the use of GOD here be seen by other religions as questionable? It has been even in the US, being challenged & upheld in the supreme courts...
just a thought...

Anyway,
A rabbi and a priest get into a car accident and it's a bad one. Both cars are totally demolished, but, amazingly, neither of the clerics is hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the rabbi sees the priest's collar and says, "So you're a priest. I'm a rabbi. Just look at our cars. There's nothing left, but we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God. God must have meant that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace the rest of our days."
The priest replies, "I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God."
The rabbi continues, "And look at this. Here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of Mogen David wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune." Then he hands the bottle to the priest.
The priest agrees, takes a few big swigs, and hands the bottle back to the rabbi. The rabbi takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap on, and hands it back to the priest.
The priest asks, "Aren't you having any?"
The rabbi replies, "No...I think I'll wait for the police."

There you go .. proof that you can actually tell a religious joke in this country without being arrested or otherwise silenced.

Exactly. Along with insurance companies who up premiums due to this "no win no fee" claims culture. Insurance prices are going through the roof due to people claiming for breaking a nail.
The whole country is becoming a mini USA (E.g ****hole).

The USA has one thing we'll never have. National pride. Be it misguided sometimes, you can't argue with the fact that most Americans are fiercely American. Immigrants to America have to learn the National Anthem, etc. They have to show a use of basic English and know historical facts about the USA. Where is that in Britain? I'm sorry to say we're miles behind the USA, unless you're specifically talking about the letigiousness of the population. We're not far behind there either

Yeah I see your point. Though the USA is one place I would not want to live.
England - the country that lost it's identity 20 or so years ago.

Last time I heard that joke it was a Scouser and a Mancuneian, still funny though.
Disclaimer: If you are offended by the following joke, please do not read it thanks.
A Catholic priest and a rabbi are walking past a primary school.
Priest: Hey! let's screw that young boy!
Rabbi: Out of what?
At what point does it change from comedy to religious hatred and at what point does it become unacceptable to joke about stereotypes.
IMO it's fine to poke fun at religions and stereotypes (yes, even racial ones) so long as it's done for comedy value, every group has a negative stereotype attached. We should be concentrating on getting the idiots who actually beleive it!
99% of the jokes I have heard told about black people, for example, I have also heard told about scousers yet the latter is acceptable. Both should be equally acceptable otherwise it's discrimination, likewise we can joke about christians, we used to be able to joke about jews. I think muslims and other religions should come in for equal amounts of mockery, it's only fair.

Yeah it appears that discrimination on being Scouse, Fat or ginger is somehow acceptable.
For all the PC stuff, anti this and that, are we really that much better off, we get it hammered into us at work but I think it just makes the reasonable people scared of being mis-heard or mis-interpreted as we will be sacked, yet the actual racists are driven further underground, it makes me very wary in my dealings with people who are in any way different to me, I thought we had free speech in this country ?
