Well all i can say on the subject is that it must depend on the dealer that it comes from japan.
The MY04 555 V-LTD is a similar car to Andy's (and based on the GL so not lightweight) yet had no underseal.
Andy, you probably did say, but was your car a direct import or though an importer?

It would be safe to say that a car imported directly from Japan, not by IM, should have further underseal applied; due to whatever OEM underseal there is being unable to withstand our unique conditions. I would also waxoyl it.
It is possible, that whether underseal is applied during manufacture depends on the domestic market for which the car is intended, but Id be surprised. So-called 'Cold Area Specification' cars are available for the Northern island of Hokkaido (and also in the North of Honshu where Coolangatta lives) with larger heaters, thicker carpets and supplementary electric heaters but I believe that these are retro-fit rather than seperate production.

IM add the extra underseal when the cars arrive in the UK.
Having said that, people like ScoobyClinic can do a better job with a drum of Waxoyl....

OH GOD not the underseel debate again.
Nearly all classic imprezas are undersealed, and as we have seen many that have been here a while they don't rust either. HOWEVER some STI's / RA's did not get underseald at the factory, so you must check. But again we have not see a rusty import.

I came across a CE9a Evo that had serious rust perforation; it does happen. Good job my agent spotted it too as I cant read Japanese!
