Ali should of beaten Tyson if they both fought in there day.

How can you possibly try to compare fitness levels between these fighters and especially in anyones favour?

But....

Please ask yourself... Who did Tyson "Slug" it out with and win that was a real deal (yeah apart from that one who mullered him ) big name fighter of his career? Then ask yourself the same about Ali. Tyson is in the record books..... but Ali is a boxing legend.

The reality is no one will ever know..... but you know what, as soon as Tyson fought a REAL fighter (Evander Holyfield) is got whupped.... whether he had lost his head by this time is partially irrelevant. When he was in his prime he was too young and inexperienced so he would of got whipped then also.

Most significantly Tyson lost his trainer defore he lost his title/head etc etc. A Kevin Rooney trained/inspired Tyson would've beaten Ali 3 out of 5 or better imho.

 

What most people seem to have forgotten about Tyson is he had great boxing skills in his prime, it was only when he split from trainer Kevin Rooney that he became a crude slugger. When Tyson fought Tyrell Biggs, a 6'5" former Olympic super heavyweight champion, Tyson at about 5'10" was out jabbing Biggs within half a round. The knockout power Tyson had, with either hand, was just the iceing on the cake. Tyson would still have been the most dominant fighter of his era because he was also the best boxer in the heavtweight division as well.

Ali wouldn't have been able to live with the combination of speed, power and boxing skills a prime Tyson brought to the ring.

A prime Ali V a prime Holyfield would have been a great fight though, much more equaly matched in my opinion

 

Ali changed his name imediately after he won the title. He joined the nation of Islam, which was a hated organisation in the majority of the USA, it was at the height of the equal rights movements activities and the Nation of Islam were preaching segregation, they wanted a blacks only nation creating in America. Because of the fact he joined this group and changed his name none of the normal boxing arena's would allow him to stage a fight, so he ended up making his first title defence in a small town in Maine, not in the normal arena's like madison square garden. Among the majority of Americans, Ali was a hated figure at the begining of his boxing career because of his political and religious choices, he was far more popular in the UK.

If both fighters had fought at their peak I think Tyson would have won.

Ali was also helped by Angelo Dundee, his trainer ..... when Ali was in the corner after being knocked down, Dundee noticed a loosening stitch in Ali's glove, poked his finger into the seam and pulled it apart so the glove needed "fixing", gaining an extra minute or two for Ali to recover from Henry's 'ammer.

Not dissing Ali in any way, but Dundee has freely admitted a bit of gamesmanship

 

After seeing rumble in the jungle I still think Ali is gonna lose against Foreman even when I know the outcome.

Foreman was aggresive, powerful and totally focused on winning that fight and still lost. The punching power of the guy was unbelievable and no wonder as Foreman has 11" wrists, so ya gonna know about it when he clobbers you. Ali took the shots though. If he had of fought Tyson it would have been a walk in the park compared IMHO.

I used to think Tyson would have had Ali but after seeing the size of Foreman in that fight and how serious he took the fight there is no way Tyson would beat Ali.

I'd put my money on Ali, simply because Bruno (who is one of the biggest muppets ever to set in to the ring) landed a punch on him that really sent him relling. If someone as inept as him can get though Tysons defences, then I thinkn ALi would have destryed him. Ali could take a lot of punishment and I feel would have weathered a Tyson storm then simply out boxed him. IMO of course

Was it not Cus D'Amato (dont know if spelling is correct) who was the real Tyson mentor?

Personally, I would go Ali, because as somebody said earlier, mentally the fight would be won before he got into the ring, and although Tyson could connect, Ali was much more mobile in the ring.

 

Yeah, it was Cus D'Amato who was the original trainer.

I'd put my money on Tyson based on them in their prime etc.

You really shoudl try and find the first world title fight Tyson made.
Up against the much more experienced and clever fighter Trevor Berbick.

Tyson beat the living daylights out of this guy.....not just in strength, but speed and boxing ability.
