You can get a nice diamond jumper for £100

There is a clear divide between the north and the south running through Watford.

Branston pickle.
Fish & Chip shops.
Country pubs.
A large selection of reasonable priced and tasty Indian restaurants (notice a trend )
Trustworthy politicians (do not laugh, take a look at virtually every other country and you will find more corruption than the UK, the only exceptions would probably be Scandanavia)
No earthquakes.
No volcanoes.
No typhoons.
A history of innovation which beats every other nation in the world, bar none.
A largely tolerant and secular society.

Brits have helped shape the modern world more than any other nation, from language to technology to sport, including formulating the rules of many of the world's most popular sports, incl football, rugby, tennis and golf.

There are some things I don't miss, but I guess I'll keep them for another post.

You can lose morris dancing and foxhunting straightaway, and follow that with craft fayres (and why the ridiculous olde Englishe spelling anyway). Oh, and the Daily Mail - pure poison

The Lake District is fantastic, beats anywhere else in the world IMO, that i've seen anyway. Apparently New Zealand is nice.

Anyone from darn sarf who hasn't done a weekend in the lakes really needs to go, superb place.

I like the UK in general, just dont like the gov't or the political correctness

Racked my brain for a few mins and seriously struggling to find some positive point.

There are many many other countries that offer ALL the things already mentioned with far less of the negatives.

A few thing I suppose (which I can live without)

- Real home brewed ales and beers
- Traditional pubs (not to be confused with your "typical" traditional pub found in the average large town centre)
- A relatively good and fast postal system, with good alternate private courriers.
- No need for ID/passport everytime I use my credit card (good for security, but it's a pain in the **** if I forget to bring any ID)
- More control over stray/feral cats
- Gutter press (just for amusment purposes - not for conveying of any real news)
- The climate being so cool means chocolate doesn't melt as soon as you pick it up it off the counter
- That there is still a majority that still speak English
- Less moped/scooter riders (although fastly increasing in numbers )

umm, That's about it..will post some more as and when I think of them

A glass is half empty when you fill it up, then remove half of its contents.

A glass is half full if you simply fill it to half of its total capapcity.

I thank you.

Don't forget it's on the web, you can access it from outside the UK so that reduces your list to ... nothing

Tiptoeing on the PC line, it does irk me when "British" citizens who i KNOW can speak English, don't do so when conversing with each other. Small point maybe, but it does sadden me.

These people couldn't though. Was a bird working behind a bar, she said "I'm sorry I do not speak English very much".

A business environment that actually works, which could be unburdened further by a reduction in red tape but compared to many countries the UK is an entrepreneurial heaven. Business innovation is something we do well - where else would low cost airlines be able to start up successfully in Europe?

We have an infrastructure to be proud of, although too many people just want to whinge about it - where else can you travel from the largest city to the second and third within a few hours? The majority of the UK has mains gas, even in rural locations and where it isn't available oil and LPG are easy to come by which is not prevalent in the rest of Europe.

We are exceptionally well off. There aren't that many countries where people have just sat on their ***** and made a lot of money (assuming they've unlocked the equity) out of house price inflation. Many posters on here are running gas gazzling motors because they can, whereas in many parts of the world having a car is the height of luxury.

The NHS is not the best in the world but it's pretty good and not far off the top and this is a service unrivalled in countries such as the US and Australia and there is a viable alternative in the form of BUPA if you need it.

As shoddy as the rail network can be there are many lines that run on time, efficiently and to a good standard but it's only the problem areas that get highlighted - try getting a train in Sydney which seems to be considered to be nirvana to many on here.

Stop bl++dy whingeing.

Our sene of humour is repressed so much now. English sense of humour (Carry on films, love thy neighbour) is now a PC tossers dream.

Little Britain, as stupid as it is ; is a breath of fresh air.

The Scottish Highlands
Its a multicultural democracy
English Pubs
Tradition / History
Weather - crisp frosty winter mornings / warm sunny days
Football - from the Premiership down to the Nationwide Conference North
Bonfire Night
Rugby League - Cone on you Saints
Xmas - The slight chance of a white one but by 3pm being so stuffed it doesnt matter!
The Lake District / Snowdonia - only 1 hour away from me
Great mountain bike trails - and its safe to cycle them
Match Of The Day
Consitently performing strong economy - Im hardly ever skint
Fish Chips and mushey peas
National Trust buildings
Its an Island - thousands of miles of beautiful shoreline
Free health service - and but for a bit of MRSA a generally good one
The ever lasting hope we'll stave of pro europeans and stay sovereign
Rolling countryside (constable country et al)
Cricket on a summers day
Devon Cream Teas
The M5/M6 interchange (how did that get in here?)
Sailors Arms in Newquay
Being able to see the Northern Lights
Superb internaional defence system (Army, Trident etc)

This took me about 3 mins to rattle off and I could treble the list if I had time - we live in a fantastic country. I pity those who whine about what this country can offer when the most they see of it is when they drive to the airport to go abroad!!

Nice
P
