I took my old car through a car wash (not a scoob) and it put a nice collection of scratches onto the paint.
I'd never put any car I like through one!!

ours will be fine as theres next to no counter wieght on the horizontal brushes
but sum others will have loads of wieght (which has the brushes held down on the car harde for a better wash) which might take it off
ive sent a good few scoobs into ours and no spoilers have came off yet, although ive seen a few wing mirrors and numberplates come off PMSL

and to answer a few questions, this totally depends on the car wash, but the brushes do have a number of sensors and stuff
our horizontal one is balanced with a slight lean to one side, when the car comes through the car pushes the brush up and over the spoiler/roof/bonnet etc etc
if there was sumthing like a cabby or one of them daft jap metal spoilers that would blatently catch the brush, the operator will press the cunningly entitled button marked "horizontal brush 1" which will raise it up until he presses it again
the side brushes are on switches and sensors so when the car touches them they pull outwards untill there not being pushed forwards by the car on the track. this means they are pulled out a tiny bit when they arrive at the wing mirror and then drop in a little bit after the wing mirror.
every morning i test these switches and sensors before the first car goes through amongst other things, all our brushes continue to spin after the car has passed through while water is rinsed over them to clean them before the next one comes through
no idea on supermarket 99p super wash things, i think they just do what they please and use wire wool brushes to get the car clean pmsl
as with anything tho, if its not looked after it will **** up!
