What I hate about this place

To be fair, I've seen both sides. I'm 34 and own a Saxo VTS so I guess I'm asking for trouble but on my thread about my car being vandalised not one person has looked at the photos of my lowered, spoilered and stickered car and suggested that I deserved it for driving a chav mobile.
By the way, the only good thing to come out of the vandalism is that to respray the car the 'shopping list' on the doors has to go. This was something the former owner chose to put on it and my attempt to remove them earlier this year showed I was going to have a silhouette of the "OZ, Sparco (nothing sparco on the car), K&N, Magnex (it's a Jetex)" stickers in the paint.

Have owned my RB5 for three years now and I loved my NOVA GTE
Chavs drive everything these days. There's a chav in my area with an old M3 and an Evo 5 spoiler on it
( Conformation of Chav report : rings/cap
check)

I don't drive an Impreza, when I did I didn't think it was the fastest thing on the road either.
I still however think that yellow 'c*nto' and others like it are utter crap because I regard cosmetic modifications as a waste of time. Particularly in the cae of the car in question with it's bonnet scoop and stick on yellow interior parts.
More or less all the cars I've ever owned have been modified in some way- ie remap, brake upgrade, twin carbs, better seats etc. All performance oriented.
That's why I tend to regard these dross mobiles with add on parts as fairly pointless pieces of tat.
As for the heavily bespoilered and stickered Imprezas I guess their owners like them in a similar way to our friend with the yellow 'c*nto'. As we are on a BBS aimed at those who own them I'm to polite to mention my own feelings on the subject though.
To summarise to each his own, and to each his own opinion and right to criticise.

You all seem to be missing the point.
It's not the car that matters, it's the person driving it!
A chav is a chav, whether he's driving a maxed nova or a £30k 5-series, just like I could quite
happily drive round in a 5GTT, safe in the knowledge that I am not a chav.![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
And no, I don't think my scooby is the fastest thing on the road - but that doesn't mean I can't pretend it is.

There are relatively few posters on here who are objective about any subject as well as a lot of people who confuse their own opinions with fact (just look at the majority of comments about Boxters for example) which contributes to the point you're making.

Well as someone just pointed out everyone is entitled to an opinion and mine is that the attitude of SOME scooby owners stinks.........I would even go as far as generalising and saying its the guys with the newer cars more so than the older ones.
Its funny because this thread was originally read and commented on by some of the scoobynet old boys, who have been around a long time and seen it all before. They will doubtlessly be here when most of use have long since left. The comments were sensible and understood where I was coming from.

The world has changed. When I got my first scoob in 1997 they were unknown to most of the population and everybody was stunned that for £18000 you could buy a new car with that performance. The car was also alot more subtle. Since then the old ones are cheaper as others have said, but also the other manufacturers have caught up and 200bhp is nothing that special. Seats, VWs, Renaults, Alfas etc all have that. The Impreza was a benchmark but it has now been matched (or possibly beaten maybe ?) by others.

Another reason I'd hesitate before buying a Scoob is that both my father and, until recently, my sister have them.
Please remember sometimes NOT having an Impreza is a choice

You mean a Scoob isn't the fastest car on this planet??
<Goes for a lie down>
Me, I don't have a superiority complex about my car, I know it for what it is; a very slow diesel Skoda. I have no problem with that at all, it was bought for a reason. I mean, who in their right mind would do 60k miles per year in a Scoob?
As for slagging off other cars, very rarely happens on the Skoda board, we know we are the lowest of the low in automotive terms and wouldn't dream of trying it on against scoobs

Function as embodied in the case of the Skoda = pretty damn cool
Form (bad form) as represented by the c*nto= totally uncool.
All IMHO of course but then again I think that 996 Turbos are cool so what do I know?

I have been to many car shows, subaru, Jap, french, ford the whole lot. I am impressed by performance the same as you but im equally impressed by what people do to their cars to make them stand out from the crowd. I dont look at a max powered up car and immediatley put the owner into a group below me. It may not be my thing but I sure as hell wouldnt call it a piece of **** or call him names for doing it.

Gary, i agree with you
I always wanted an impreza, it was the ultimate rally icon in my eyes. I bought one 4 years ago, a uk 98 turbo. found scoobynet 6 months later and then, it was a feckin good site, i was totally addicted to scoobynet. I sold the uk and got an sti5 early this year, the model i should have bought firts time round. the performance was outstanding, even compared to the lightly modified uk model i had just sold.
Anyway, this year i also bought a fiesta xr2i for trackdays and subsequently registered with a fiesta forum. TBH i now spend more time over there, i come back here frequently to witness the usual posts as gary's initial posts details. considering the fiesta forum is viewed by a younger, supossedly lower class 'chav' generation its more mature actually.
In now intend to sell my impreza in summer next year, mainly because (and i never thought i would) i'm getting bored of it and when you think about it, they are getting more common and easier to purchase now by the younger 'boy racer' generation sticking rubbish mods on them. I also now have more fun in my fiesta than the scooby at less than half the price.
The other thing that makes me laugh on here is when people post pics of young lads modifed cars (saxo, nova etc) to take the pi55, admitedly (sp?) some of them are frickin terrible and should be scrapped, but a lot of them are no different to some on here, ie lexus lights (why ???), extra scoops, sti spoilers, sti stickers on a uk model and dare i say it, rally decals.
i could go on, & no doubt i will get flamed
anyway, gary, as i said i agree.
BTW, you're wrong, seen a right chav round home, blue scooby rally car look-like with a tacky personal plate![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

I have to confess to a certain respect for someone who spents an absolute fortune on modifying their car, whatever it may be. Maybe it's jealousy that said person actually has the bolleaux to stand out from the crowd that makes people react as they do? ![](http://www.slowblackskoda.com/smilies/chris_huh.gif)
Doesn't mean I understand it though, but I wouldn't pour scorn on them. External mods are very much a case of personal taste. Do you pour scorn on someone for prefering French mustard to English mustard? For prefering a MacDonalds to a TGIFs?

I take cars pretty seriously as I'm a bit of a sad case. Perhaps that's why I take such a strong line on what I perceive to be poorly modified examples.
When you have a strong liking for something then you tend to have strong opinions on what's right, thus the scorn pouring.
Rather than a mustard debate, I'd regard it as Good V Evil

Everyone's idea of a "good car" and a "crap car" is different....
IMHO that stickered up Scoob at the top of this page is hideous and I would be embarrased to be seen in it, never mind owning it...!!
