Correct
Ran 520/530 in race trim & a grenade 570 for qualifing.
15 years later & i run 640bhp on the road .its called progress.
Before you ask about grip its done 0-100 7.15 & 0-150 13.3 so plenty of grip nothing is standard i repeat nothing.

I will never forget picking my 2wd saph cossie up from stormont ford in 1992
It was a white 1 owner 13,000 miles g plate, actually picked it up day before xmas eve.My best xmas yet.
Had it for 4 years moded it to only to about 300bhp.
Loved every minute of it,never ever let me down, not once.
Sold it with 52k on the clock and was truly showroom condition.
If anyone knows of a white cossie G464VYP about i would love to see what its like now.
A friend of mine brought a grey one a few months after i got mine,he still has it and it currently runs a julian godfrey built engine running around 550bhp,he has only just fitted some capable brakes.Damn scary.
Car is going to be put on rollers as soon as its fully run in.

Cool

quite fancy getting a 2wd saff for track day fun. if I got a fresh rebuild and go the stage 3 tune (803's,-31,chip, map sensor and a T34 hybrid) what sort of reliability should I expect ? what sort of money are you guys talking about for these 500+hp lumps including turbo ect ?

Best to get in touch wth Mike Rainbird via PassionFord, but as it stands now, no cossies want to compete

Brilliant cars.....had an '89 2WD and it was ace. As said before they do look dated inside, mainly the dash, stalks etc but they look the dogs from outside (prefer the pre-facelift lenses)

I hope to be swapping my E30 M3 for a 3 door Cossie this year sometime which will be cherished in my spare time (but dont let the misses know)

then why doesnt someone at least try to build one that can?? do cossie owners give up that easy?
only a few years back people wouldve laughed if folks said evos would start giving skylines a run for their money... but now they are.
it is a shame really, coz i love the look of the sapphire cosworths, although ive never been in one.

out of curiosity, are cosworths as unreliable as people make out? or is it the ford bit of the car, and not the engine, thats unreliable/old?

my R32 is 12 years old, has 60k on the clock, yet feels new, and is reliable. shes now down at gt-art getting a 500bhp upgrade, which these cars cope with easily.

Well I have run about 370-380bhp for the last 18 months with no hiccups... car has been schweet! Only thing that went was gearbox, which I knew would, sooner or later, especially after doing 20+ trackdays!

My 3-door was a gem reliability wise. Only thing that went wrong was when it ate a sparkplug and when the rocker cover gasket went on it.
I gave it untold abuse, didnt service it once :embarrassed: and it just laughed at everything I chucked at it.
Interestingly enough, I gave pretty much the same abuse to my 200SX and it cost me more in repairs and didnt take it half as well.
If I could park it anywhere without worrying about it getting nicked, I'd have another like a shot.
astraboy.

Not a case of the cossie owners giving up... there's quite a few cossies that are over 600bhp and also have NOS, that can top the 200mph barrier now. The criteria when they are built/set-up is to choose whether to go for 'top speed' or for 'track use' but as there are so few top speed events, it's not worth the extra expense of having 2 CW&Ps and swapping them over, as the set-up of the gearing and suspension is completely different.

My other half has opted for track use with his RS500, which still gives him a respectable top speed of 181mph with a 3.9 CW&P/9" plated diff, but if he went for longer gearing from a 3.44 or 3.6 CW&P with a 9" plated diff, he would get about 208mph. But in events like TOTB a RWD will always dip out in the ¼ mile event as it's impossible with that much power to get traction to launch it off the line.

I have never been interested in doing ¼ miles or top speed events and my car is set up and mapped for road and track. My engine has never let me down and I have done 30+ track days in the last 2 years. Blown a couple of charge cooler hoses (the original Pace ones) but they have now been replaced with Samcos. The only 'unreliable' thing with my car, will always be the standard crappy gearbox.

I spent a year in the mid-nineties trying to find a mint low miler saph, picked up a gorgous 2wd on a "G" plate, completely standard with 55K on the clock..Sadly, even with low mileage, Fords of that era succumbed to rust no matter what; mine had started to suffer on the arches

Going back to the inside, the ergonomics and driving position was excellent, I remember all the reviews of the time raving about that...

Any RS Ford is going to be worth serious £££ in years to come, if its not now (maybe with the exception of those horrid Mk4 (?) RS2000 Escort things)

bry,

Like you I spent 6 months trying to find a minter, in the end I had to offer above the asking price to get my mate who had owned this mint 2wd G plater for 5 years to part with it. Completely std apart from some 16" ford motorsport rims, looked mean in black and I loved it. Until 1999 where I was working at the time I came up against a guy in a 94 WRX and that was it, STI in, cossie out. Happy days though.

I agree, but to prepare a competative car is very expensive & in my case at least 2 nights in a Hotel etc. For What!!. A new clutch would be minimum requirement for a pre-event service & all in I would say 4k to arrive on the day.
Would be competative in RWD but not a winner these days, surely you know what ****e we take in the Cossie scene if we dont win.
Reached the Final in a previous year & still got slated. Nah!! my decision to concentrate on raising the Topspeed record is the correct one.

.
In gear my Saff is quicker than the Rockets 0-150 9.21 against 9.62 for the Ronnie, however it aint going to beat him over a quarter because i aint & never will have 4X4 grip off the line.
Ronnie ran 205.8 mph at Brunters & soon I hope to at least challenge that feat. Its Horses for courses & Totb aint my Cossies course.
Martin Hadland may challenge for Honours in future years.
Cheers Rod
ps. Mine is totally a road car with full trim & no cage I do not intend to change it to make it more competitive for a once a year bash.

Get real only a few have a genuine 600bhp & no one is even close to challenging my 200mph, Please dont believe all you hear, wait till they go to Brunters & then you will see just how difficult it will prove to be. The two main rivals have already said they dont intend having a go.
I could gear mine to do 210mph but it aint going to pull it.EVER!!
Only 7 Cossies ever over 180 & only MADevelopment cars beat 180 last year.
Only Three ever over 190 also shows how hard it is.
700bhp is all that is required to do 200mph ,but you will still require that 700horses at 8k or you wont have the accleration to get there. My peak was circa 770 at 7k. I pulled 7940 in 5th.
0-200 in sub 30secs is hard to do but if that aint achieved you simply run out of road. Will have to wait for Martin to appear before that record is challenged, he has the Knowledge to beat it.

McLaren F1 only needed 627bhp to do 240.14mph
