Of course it's not a 'poultry sum' - that would involve lots of chickens.......

Never liked the man but can't help but applaud him for the generous donation.

Have to say considering Plymouth Argyle managed to donate £30,000 between them kinda makes Man Us donation look a little small. But it all helps.

Didn't see him or anyone else for that matter donate to the Bam earthquake disaster fund. There seems to be a competition to gain the most merit by pledging the most this time round. Seems to work too - he's got you lot eating out of his hand.

How do you know he hasn't donated to the Bam (or any other fund for that matter). Having a high profile name donating to this cause may also prompt others to do the same. Can only be a good thing. Are you suggesting that he shouldn't have donated?

Have you fed the starving africans yet?

So if he gives $10m ...... should be more

If he doesn't give anything .... he's a tosser

He's got nothing to gain by giving this much money - he's already revered by his fans. I'd like to think it's an entirely altruistic gesture, but even if it's not, it's still $10m going to the right place.

Read the link I provided. Loads of nations and wealthy individuals make pledges in the heat of the moment and then back out later when they've had time to think about it. There's no *proof * that he has done/will do either. As the article states no records are kept of who gives what so we'll never know. It is well known however that he is a dodgey tactition at the best of times so who's to say what his motives might be.

Somebody said he has nothing to gain by saying this but I disagree. Look and the number of people on here who say they didn't like him till they read this, but now they think he's great. This adulation will eventually turn into additional income for Shumacher in the form of increased royalties through increased sales of goods - he will get all the money he's *pledged* (not catagorically *given*) back again. A shrewd move...

OK - I pledge $15 million. Therefore I'm even greater than Shumacher, so let's hear some gratitude.

UB, you wanna see someone about this mate, you seriously have a problem with famous/rich people. Are you a cynic just for the sake of being a cynic? Do your comments apply to ALL people who donate lots of money. Are the donations from the governments around the world just PR exercises to get them re-elected? You don't have $15m to donate so your gesture is pointless.

Anyway, you are contradicting yourself in a way. You imply that he may back out yet this would contradict your opinion that he's doing it as a PR move. For him to back out would be a 'PR' disaster, surely? Regardless, he has donated the money according to the bbc website. Doesn't say anything about pledged or promised. What evidence do you have to support your opinion that he has pledged it rather than actually donated it (as is being reported).

Oh, better a dodgy tactician than a poor speller

Schuey does a lot for UNICEF as well this isn't an out of the blue decision for him!! Exactly how much has the Queen or the King of Brunei given??? there are alot of other wealthier people out there but they are just too greedy!!!
As mentioned before, if half of top paid footy players donated a bit of money, I am sure it would equate to a lot....
A fair few players are on £60,000+ per week!!!

Credit where credit is due!!!

his bodyguard was killed by the tsunami which must have had an impact on michael as well.

well done michael, good man!

The Scoobynet pedants have arrived. LMAO

You don't have $15m to donate so your gesture is pointless.
I can still pledge it though and take the credit the same as Shumacher.

We will never know either way so it can never be a PR disaster. It's a win, win for 'Shuey' either way..

he has donated the money according to the bbc website. Doesn't say anything about pledged or promised. What evidence do you have to support your opinion that he has pledged it rather than actually donated it
None. Any more than some BBC hack has.

Oh well. There's clearly no merit to be had for me for pledging loads of dosh as eveyone seems to reserve their admiration for some obcenely overpaid cheating german. So I'll keep me money, like.

Kudos to Schuey.

Puts the £50K per Premier league football team a bit into perspective.
Thats barely a weeks wage for one player let alone the whole club.

Not that it is a competition of course.

UB
How do you know he didnt give any money to the Bam disaster. Read the thread and youll see he didnt want any publicity. Maybe this was the case in other situations as well. You dont know so shut up.

And how much did you give as a proportion of your wealth then??????

UB you've lost the plot mate

Schumacher gives over 1 million pounds a year to chairty each and every year, and has done for many years. He doesn't shout about it either.

This $10m is extra and bloody good for him.

Your cycnical, bordering on lunatic, analysis of his motives is very, very wrong imo.

Cool

Respect to Schuey. Probably the world's favourite kraut right now (nur ein Witz).

I haven't given anywhere near 1/8th of my income and therefore take my hat off to someone who has.

The perfect post!! I rest my case, that it has become a media led race to see who gives the most the fastest... 'Princess Dianaism' has once again gripped the nation.... although not just the nation... this time it's *worldwide* it's even spread to Wales...

The story about him not wanting to publicise the fact sounds a bit dubious to me, but still, fair dues to the guy. Okay, it may not do any harm to his image but it's better than him not donating 10 mill.
As for UB not donating x percent of his wage etc. that's not the point, When you've got so many millions that precentage of your wage is not exactly going to make a dent.

I'd stay off the meths if I were you, it seems to affecting your sanity. Maybe your loss of marbles is all Blair's fault? I think you're just trolling and can't possibly be serious.

The point is I can also easily afford to give 10% of my salary without any hardship whatsoever, except I won't be doing so, but Micky S. did. This is what makes him great in this instance.

Thumbs up

Good for him!

Anyone making any donation should be applauded not critisied. It is not a race or a pi$$ing competition. £10m will help a lot of people who need the help and do not give a to$$ about the politics or who gave the most.

IMHO of course

Schumi wanted no publicity as I clearly stated. The press may have turned it into a race maybe. That wasnt what the thread was about.

So just how much have you donated then?
