Got pulled over for doing 85mph in a 55mph Nevada.
Patrol car was on the other side of the road, driving towards me! Must have some laser speed gun on the dash.

The cop took an age to catch up. I saw him do a u turn, I then dropped the speed to 50 - 55 and carried on until he started with the whole flashing lights thing.

Was in a rented Jeep Cherokee.
4 of us in the car plus 3 snowboards. These Jeeps are not very big, so it was overloaded, to the point where I was unable to use the rear view mirror....

Cop asks the usual questions, where you going blah blah. Yes sir, no sir. "....Watch your speed" and lets me off! Result!

Minnesota this time of year is going to be a little chilly The your eyeballs start to freeze kind of chilly. Why not take a cab? You won't have to wait for it to warm up and there's no chance of it freezing solid overnight.

If you have a gun it must be on display!
Plus in some states if you have your wipers on you must put your lights on too ....

Definitely not an urban myth, I saw that (and numerous other disclaimers) a lot. American people are that likely to be sued, and American judges to uphold it. Look at the "stella" awards (nothing to do with the beer) to see just some of the law suits that have held up over there.

Example - bloke buys a big Winnebago motor home. Driving along a freeway, sets the cruise control and walks into the back to make a cup of coffee. Unsuprisingly it crashes, but the mental part is he sues (and wins) Winnebago for not warning him that cruise control doesn't cope with steering for you, avoiding obstructions in the road etc.

Watch your speed... When we were over there, my mate was driving at about 80 in a 65 limit, we got pulled (did the hands on the dash as it seemed a sensible idea). The state trooper was OK with us, quite chatty, but still fined my mate about $250 dollars and (I think) 6 points that only counted in Wisconsin. Was impressed that they are geared up to take credit card payments for fines!

Other than that, we did 5500 miles with no problems.

John.

Well, I'm in NY at the moment (Long Island) and have a Chevy Impala - July 2004 version.

It makes a lot of noise under the bonnet (hood!) but to say it goes well is a bit of an overstatement. A right tank, which handles like a pig, goes like a V6 strangled by crap fuel and an auto box would do, though has a boot (trunk!) big enough to fit my Citroen ZX in...

Still trying to work out how all the lights and stuff work, and getting over the price of fuel at $1.99 a US gallon. Still, hoping for some snow tonight for some rear-wheel fun tomorrow.
