I had a couple of Mk2s around 1990, but generally rotted (were only a few years old.. but that was cars in those days) but then bought a mint 1968 Mk1 1300 Super in 1991, had a nice 1600 X-flow, Capri struts, yadda yada. was a great car.

Funnily enough I am having a similar debate on another forum. Young lad wanting a nice car without the massive insurance sting. I have suggested he gets something like a MK1 1300e or a 1300 sport MK2 if he can find one. This way he has a car with great street cred and will be able to get classic insurance.

Ah, fond memories. Rallied a number of MkII Escorts culiminating in a 2.1 Pinto, twin 48s, engine by Oselli etc etc. Does anyone remember Oselli - are they still going? This was in the days when the 6R4 came out and far too many of them ended up in the hands of rich buggers who punted them down the straights and pootled round corners but still managed to kill my stage times.

A mate of mine had an immaculate MkI Mexico which was written off by the garage mechanic on the way to it's MOT - very sad. Good memories though - did anyon read Car and Car Conversions?

I had a MKII with 2.2 pinto, dave brooks twin 45 webbers etc, bought the engine for £1100, apparently 220bhp at the flywheel on rolling road before I bought it, nicely prepared (multiple classwinner) and it was well fun, torque was just unbelievable. Actually that engine is still probably rallying around here somewhere :c)

Used it for bout 2 years round the west wales night events before my kid was born and sadly had to see it go. If there's anything I miss its that car.

Sometimes, I've even contemplated getting rid of the scooby and buying a decent one to do some night events again.

Fraid not Mark, he's keeping it for his son the lucky begger. This guys garage from what I've heard is like an Aladins cave for old Escort bits, loads of GP4 stuff, early RS bits etc, he occasionally builds rally shells when he gets hold of a decent shell.

My older brother had a couple Mk 2 Escorts, a 1.6 and a 1.8 I think, before he bought a Mk 1 RS2000. Was blue with a darker blue stripe, with a 5 speed box in it (from a Sierra I think). Was great fun, and sounded awesome. He sold it to a bloke up in Yorkshire eventually, and has regretted it ever since!

Just like that one.

[QUOTE=Mark320STI]pic of car http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...I/P1010029.jpg[/QUOTE ACE, they just don't seem to build the fun factor into cars now. I mean cossy engines in mk2 escorts, SUPERB. I remember coming back from cheltenham, on the M5, about four years ago. When this lairy, but v-quick Nissan 200sx, came flying past. Sat up his a##e was a bright orange mk1 escort.Flashing his lights for the nissan to pull over, which he eventually had too. The mk1 tore past him then, and in his rear window he had YOUV'E JUST BEEN TANGO'D, classic.
