My dog box spat the front diff out the side after 12 x 10 second 1/4 mile runs in quick succession
I have a new casing to build it into but in the mean time refitted the Sti5 box (now with 3.9 diffs) and turned the boost down to 1.6 bar.

I would have thought that WRC spec cams and timing would be wrong!! [Ref Astiman above ]
WRC engines only rev to 6000 and are severely restricted through the turbo with a ??mm restrictor.
Thus they are completely unsuitable for almost anything other than a WRC car.
8.5:1 is the APi ratio of choice for 2.5 compression. But hey! that's just us.

the wrc cams are most likely the Kent DH22 spec cams, which work very well in road cars..
then theres some people that run in excess of 272 cams.

Otherwise, l understand a bit about cams - can't think how? Just that 'WRC cams' is not really the correct terminology.

I'm very happy with my EJ257 in a MY99 with a garrett/Mitsu hybrid turbo and UK 6-speed.
Now that I fixed the boost creep I been running 1.2Bar for ~5000miles estimate ~400/400.
Use my car everyday to work etc and it get to be driven real hard also on the ice for ex. with real tires
Have a friend that drives rally and he was really impressed how strong it was allready from 3K rpm, "Dosen't matter which gear your in, you just point were you want to go a put the peddel down"

From memory, I think the cams were 433 thou of lift with 272 degrees duration.
Agree with Jan though, except mine lights up at 2500rpm. The missus drove it on Christmas day (no that was not my Christmas present to her!) and scared herself sh1tle$$ on 1/4 throttle in 2nd gear!

API david,
the DH22 cams were kents code name for the cam profile they provide for 99 spec impreza wrc.
They are widely employed now after they produced decent results on my car on the dyno.
I was in discussion with Kent telling them the exact nature of the power delivery I wanted and they suggested a range of cam timings to suit. I was concerned that WRC cars were heavily geared towards cars breathing through restrictors up to 6k rpm and thus was dubious about the cams.
Kent assured me that when unrestricted the wrc cam profile would work very well indeed, it is more likely the cam timing that will affect breathing performance at high rpm.
I tried them and the results were exactly as I was hoping for. Since then the profile seems to have bee used extensively by people building engines in that power range, apart from nutters like wallis.
WRC isnt just nomenclature in this case, they really are profiles used in WRC engines. I presume the limitations of WRc rules are what led you to the same conclusion as me, but can confirm they work exceptionally well with the restrictions lifted.

Aaaaah! Now that makes sense. Thanks for the info Adam. you hear about all these cams etc. being used here and there and to get genuine feedback is not always easy.
I am now better informed, not wiser, just better informed.
Costs for a set of cams??
Thanks again

cams are quite cheap to have done, its the valve train thats expensive..
Cams machined from billet are around £800 Each IIRC.. I use reprofiled as im a tight northerner.
