Get a grip if you don't like don't watch it if you think it might offend you, like sex and violence on TV if you don't like then don't watch, as you say freedom of speech and to watch something else !

Sorry, mate, unless you're an android words do hurt, it's that simple. That saying is pile of hot and steaming.

thanks ajm im chuffed haha u have a nice weekend
cheers
huxley its attacking a religion and lying about it, we wont want anyone to lie or insult us wont we or our loved ones, they sack robert kilroy and if anyone said something bad about muslims, sikhs or jews, it would be taken off but coz its christians , it seems its ok to do it to them, same as what madame tausseds people done, this isnt entertainment bud, its abuse and insults and not freedom of speech.
its not about watching or changing the channel, its about hurting people and insulting their faith.
if their was a programme saying liverpool or moss side are full of scumbags and social parasites, i bet u, those people responsible will be punished and heads will roll, u know what happened to the sun paper after the hillsborough disaster, its still boycotted till this day up their
cheers

As someone else said, what's to say Jesus wasn't gay? His hair was well-preened, he never had a girlfriend, etc. Seriously though, do we have any evidence to say anything about Jesus's sexuality - therefore we can't say he was heterosexual either!

As for the opera, right from the start, the audience in the theatre seemed to be getting terribly terribly excited when anyone even muttered a swear word.
WTF!? You go to the cinema and hear much worse! Yet no-one titters. Were the audience a bunch of folks who were all awfully nice people who'd never heard a swear word before???

I have to say, I found some parts of it amusing
What I can't understand is why people are taking it so seriously. It's only meant to be light entertainment surely, not a documentary
The 'Jesus is gay issue' is only insulting if you belive in Jesus - there are many faiths (& of course, those who do not believe) that would not find it offensive.
Oh well, it kept me mildly amused for a couple of hours

Superb
Faith is just that, subjective beliefs, you can reach almost any self feeding conclusion you want, hence all the diversity of opinion. Like all opinions they are therefore open to exploration and ridicule. Why should we have to walk around on eggshells not upsetting someone just because it is a "religion" rather than any other opinion? If that shakes the faith then it wasn't worth having in the first place?
I hope the BBC's brave decision (damn good on them, I think I should email them to say so, only to slightly counteract the thousands of small minded who complained) will get them a bit more edgy again after the unfair battering they got over Iraq. Down with PC claptrap. Glad to be a license payer

"jesus is the messiah and he aint gay"
Moses, part (or all, depending on beliefs) of that is an unsubstantiated statement about a guy who lived 2000 years ago.
I know you take your faith seriously, but because you believe something to be true without being able to back it up, that does not mean that somebody who disagrees with your view is either
a) wrong, or
b) blasphemous.
You'd get into a lot less arguments if you would stop presenting your opinions as irrefutable facts.
You can't have freedom of speech, except when it might offend someones religious beliefs. You either believe in freedom of speech or you don't.
You can't be "mostly" a virgin or pregnant, can you ?

Moses, do events like the Asian Tsunami where 150,000 innocent people died and many others are left without family/homes/food not test your faith - what's your take on this?
No I didn't watch the Opera - Opera bores me to tears but hat's off to the BBC for showing it and not caving in to pressure from the minority extremist groups - bet the viewing figures were good

I did not watch it on principal and also because it just did not appeal to me anyway.
From what I have seen from a good many posts, it was as I forecast and was simply a very boring display of unpleasantly bad language and blasphemous content.
It is a great shame to see our licence fee being wasted on this kind of inconsequential rubbish. It about time the TV services got it together and started producing decent entertainment in the way of clever comedy again and other programmes of real interest in the earlier tradition of British TV.

Makes me laugh the number of people who on one hand say they didn't watch it out of pricipal and then criticise the bbc for wasting our license fee money (how do they know it was wasted if they didn't watch it).
Personally, I quite enjoyed it and took it for what it was. Light entertainment. The quality of singing etc was actually very good, but I can see why some people wouldn't like it. It was an aquired taste and if you don't like modern opera, you probably wouldn't like this.
It was a refreshing change to see something on the bbc that was different from the normal soap / changing rooms / ground force drivel that they seem to serve up all the time (which in my opinion is an ever greater waste of my license fee money)...

The opra made a change last night as a bit of light entertainment, which makes a change from all the other drivel that's normally on a saturday night
Well it made me chuckle at some of the jibes

To me religion is a deeply personal matter, my relationship with a god or gods is going to be a one-to-one thing via prayer and my choice of lifestyle.
So the thing that really annoys me are religious people of any religion that are so opposed to anyone else criticising or mocking their religions.
If all Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs etc just shut up for once and stopped spurting forth hatred and intolerance of free speech and other peoples opinions can you imagine what a peaceful world we'd live in.
Having said that I do agree that Christians are definitely discriminated against, very much the same way white middle class males are. The BBC has got double standards.

It's called "Satire"! Does no one knows what it means????? ... "writing or art which principally ridicules its subject (individuals, organizations, states)"
The whole thing was a p*ss take of the Jerry Springer show. The use of religion and language was to ridicule the Springer show (and more generally our modern day uncaring culture).
Any bright spark would recognise that the Opera was demonstrating the awfullness of modern chav-culture and where we could ultimately end up. These are the same "bad things" that the church teaches us to avoid.
The fact that no one sees this and instead jumps to conclusions and extremist views is simply added justification that we're disapearing up our own **** and the chav-culture is winning.

...and if it had been on Channel 4 (also a publicly funded channel as it happens!), then no-one would have batted an eyelid.
It's just an excuse for BBC bashing by the press.
