Fair enough it may not be your Santa Pod traffic light start but there both street racing in the eyes of the law

Regards Shimy.

P.s.
Shall we have a vote on who likes street racing when the laws not in sight?

There is a time and a place for racing and the public road aint the place. It all starts off ok and then it turns into something a little sinister when someone looses and aint happy. I have seen people go round roundabout the wrong way to get the advantage etc etc.
I like to think my nutty driving is done on the track where it should be.

I also remember the thread from a couple of months ago where a Scoobynetter got 5 years for something related.

Beating a Scoob?

They're about the same except in a full bore standing start (in which my 03 WRX is much quicker)!

This is pathetic. VWV6 is just trolling. Who really cares if his R32 is faster than an Impreza or not? The cars are so evenly matched that it is entirely down to the drive. In the real world, a classic would win but the VW would be better at the top end.

Some of us have the maturity not to have to race everything that is on the road today. And some of us really don't care what would win - we have an Impreza because it's a decent car with good residuals and good performance when we care to boot it. Performance isn't the only appeal of the Subaru...

there is a very simple answer to this if you want to find out how quick other cars are look at the attendee lists at places like bookatrack then book yourself in. No racing but you can see if you can keep up or get away from the cars your interested in, you can pretty much be guaranteed that the other driver is 'trying' why else would they go on track than to drive their car as fast as it'll go

Of course if they are a really good driver they'll waste you unless the car differential is massive i.e. inexperience + westfield will beat a racing driver in in a fiesta 1.0L

How much is it for a run on a trackday? I prefer the new golf to the horrible looking old one, are they making a R32 in that model?

Possibly a little too late into the thread - but have owned both. R32 and WRX STI RA V3. Totally different animals regardless of figures. Scoob was scary fast and Veedub was civilized fast. Miss them both - but wot next?

some people need to chill out. they are only cars and i guess its just an extension of top trumps except you own the cars!!!

driven an r32, i like em, but then i like imprezas of all kinds and i would be the first to admit they are a bit lardy in places.

Can't believe the timing here. My brother-in-law drives a R32 and me a 03 WRX Wagon with PPP (appreciate this is not standard). We decided to have a play before Xmas on a dual carriageway slightly up hill and although I had him (we called it a day just over 100mph) it wasn't by much.

I shouldn't really be rising to this "bait" but my bro has a Golf GTI PD150 and the rattles from the trim at the back are unbelievable. The dash makes buzzing noises on rough tarmac surfaces and recently he hit a steel pole which was sticking up from the floor (blind spot) in car park, punctured a great hole in the bumper side. Great "bank vault build quality"? Don't believe the hype friend. As for "exclusive" it looks no different to the thousand and one other Golfs on the road today. many TDI's have 18" alloys these days which give them an R32 look.

Give me a Scooby anyday. I am on my third

I've owned a classic MY99 which was bl00dy quick for a near standard car, now got a UK300 with PPP which is actually much quicker on the road thanks to the torque it produces ... my experience tells me that the quicker car between any standard Scoob and a Golf R32 which, let's face it are virtually the same on performance, will be down to driver skills rather than the car. Both cracking motors IMHO ...

That's my two penny's worth anyway

Order back issues of any motoring magazines when they all did a variety of group tests when the R32 Golf just came out

For your question of how fast is the R32 compared to standard Imprezas you could also compare it to a 4-6 year old FWD N/A Honda (ITR) with only a 1.8 litre 4 pot (as both have exact same ¼ mile times on www.letstorquebhp.com )

Hello everyone - 1st post

I just thought I'd add my own thoughts to this thread as I have owned an MY00 turbo(standard) , currently own an R32 and pick up my new 05STI PPP on Friday (yes I do consider myself extremely lucky).

Personally I think my MY00 turbo was quicker than my current R32 - agreed that there may not have been much in it - but to me (from what I remember) it was quicker (no evidence just IMHO)

Now the STI......... thats just in another league of goodness.......yeah baby

-=HERE=- is a video of my MY02 Bugeye. It was standard apart from a performance exhaust and K&N panel air filter. Vid was taken on an aircraft runway (very flat).

-=HERE=- is what my mates MG did.

Take a vid of your R32 and lets compare (not that it matters anymore to me cuz ive got an EVO 8 now lol).

I came up against a Blue R32 on the A34 bypass and didnt think it was all that quick, I was in my Fiat Coupe Turbo (couple of minor mods, nothing ott) and I thought it would be quicker than the Fiat but it wasnt.

I suspect the exchange didnt cost him a pint of fully synthetic though !
