Also, your mate can be prosecuted for lending you his car, when you had no insurance.

ahhhh...the old "high horse" argument. From the family of arguments including "racist" and "pc". Allways used when the person thinks he will elevate the attacker to a position with such a label in the hope he will shut up for fear of adding to his new status as a "high horse" "PC" whatever.

However, in this case...as in most others...the label is a load of crap. To say driving uninsured is deserving of the grief he's getting is not high horse at all....its "normal horse". You want to lable someone lable him......because hes on a dwarf horse with no legs sitting in a ditch.

Only if you can prove he knew he had no insurance - virtually impossible to prove unless he admits it

Yeah, but that's NSR for you - you can't ask a question without getting a gut full of everyone's opinions!!

Ah, good to see the usual hyppocracy and mock indignation that Scoobynet thrives on

paul-s has done a bad thing. No question. He knowingly broke the law. Now why is his knowingly driving without insurance any worse than all your knowingly driving faster the legal speed limit?

He didn't cause an accident.
Neither did you.

He could have caused one.
So could have you.

Would the misery caused by his crash be any worse than the misery caused by you crashing and injuring or killing someone whilst driving illegally over the posted limit? No.

I say people caught speeding should get a life time ban, no question. And a second offence, 10 years jail. There sorted.

Somehow I doubt that sounds vey appealing to most of you. Me neither, so give the guy a break.

OK, why doesn't everyone list their motoring offences on this thread? Then everyone can be morally judged by everyone else.

If you haven't actually been caught, then please try to be honest and list all the times you have gone over the speed limit, driven without insurance (intentionally or unintentionally), drievn without road tax, bald tyres, defective lights, you get the idea.

Anyone who has not got any of the above can then be crowned, and we can all bask in their high moral glow, hopefully with some of it rubbing off on us so that we can be better people.

Any takers?

Couldn't Paul have logged on as Bad_Boy34 or Kitten_Killer27 to ask his question?

He does one stupid thing, then does another stupid thing by posting on a board known to be full of self-righteous b'stards. It's a double whammy!

Yes. Two people end up paralysed for life. One can afford to have a motorised wheelchair, house rebuilt, 24hr attention from private medical care, mortgage paid off due to insurance money. The other sues the uninsured driver and gets maybe 5k out of his savings, which is useful to him for a couple of weeks but not the other 40 years of his life. Maybe you think they're equal but I don't.

in theory though, is your insurance not invalid if you are breaking the law before you crash ie by speeding??

do you belive driving over the legal limit increases the chance of a crash?

most on here would say not....in which case the only negative implication of the action is to get nicked.

do you belive driving without insurance reduces the chance of an acciddent?

most on here would say not in which case the only negative impliaction of the action is to screw someone over finacially whether its for the cost of a bumper or the cost of a 24 hr nurse for life.

No. It just affects who they apportion most blame to.

Wow, how incredibly lucky you chose that as an example. Well there you go then, it is ok to speed after all! Thanks for that.

Funnily enough, exactly the same applies to a crash caused by someone driving inappropiately quickly and causing the same scenario, except that he will claim off the guys insurance. But, as has already been pointed out, you can bet your insurance company will wriggle out of paying because you got prosecuted for speeding. Even if they don't, I'm sure the paralysed guy will feel much better, even with all that money that the reason his life is fcuked is because it was down to speeding rather than driving without insurance!

Driving over the limit does not automatically increase your chance of having an accident, but it may well lessen your chances of avoiding one if it happens. Driving without insurance, on it's own does increase or decrease your chances of having an accident.

I find it rather disturbing that people constantly refer to the fact that you cannot 'make a claim' against someone without insurance as opposed to being concerned about the fact that whatever type of offence you commit may cause injury or death to someone!

For the record, I have had both speeding convictions and insurance convictions. I broke the law, I paid the price, I got on with it.

I suggest you all do to.

All rise for the Scoobynet Court.

Kangaroo is now in session. Please be seated.

Praise be to the Scoobynet righteous, may the power of He-Man (and that that wierd tiger) be on their side and strike down anyone who thinks different. For their opinion whether asked for or not shall be taken in gospel.

And Lo, one of the Scoobynet SR came down from the mountain with the commandments, for it was written that thou shalt not mention any misdemeanor that you have done for you shall endure the SR wrath.

The commandments were

1: Thou shalt not speed, or discuss it,
2: Drive a car on the road with out insurance, or ask the penalties,
3: Thou shall not support hunting or anything else that may upset little fluffy.

In short, don't put anything on here slightly contentious to some group. You WILL get hammered for it.

Don't tell any one, but I have sped and past a school. Stoooooone him.
