Just looking on google it seems Labour have made amendments to reduce the instances where they must destroy fingerprints!

Basically, as of 2001, your fingerprints will be retained unless you gave them purely voluntarily, you were not a suspect AND you did not give them permission to retain them..... otherwise you will be barcoded, uploaded to their database and fitted up with whatever the government fancies!
I expect that loophole will be removed come the 3rd Reich (aka term)!

It's true that your fingerprints are retained, but if you are not convicted then it will say so on your records, and your personal details will be removed from the PNC.
The database is just a tool for use by Fingerprint Officers and SOCOs, not a way to start fitting people up for crimes....
There are much easier ways to do that.

If you are cautioned (not charged) they will still take prints, a dna swab and the mug shot.
Released after questioning without a caution or a charge then yes you are correct
