I found the Toyo's very good 'allrounder' and nearly as good as the legendary Bridgstone SO2 pp's.
IMHO camber bolts are essential both for max effec and to help the alignment technician get everything symetrical.

Curb is a tricky place!
Drove my stock Sti there some 4 years ago and scared myself. The tweeked 911 was much faster.
I used a private test morning there to finally sort out the damping settings for the AVO's.
As to the future:

I would fit the Whiteline front and rear roll bars, rear adjustable. Oversteer is fun but slow!

after fitting a set of Tein HA's with 24mm whiteline rear sway bar with the heavy duty mounts I seriously doubt I could go back to the standard suspension. It feels much more sure footed now around corners with less body roll and generally feels better all round especially under braking as it doesnt move around at all.

Sure the ride is harsher especially on rough b roads or when you hit bridge expansion joints at speed on an autobahn but around town its not so bad. I did have a bad moment in germany 2 weeks ago when doing about 200k when I hit a joint where the road met a bridge and landed about half way along the seat. So like everything, you will have decide if the end result you are after is worth the compromise (comfort for handling). If you can get that compromise with STi struts and eibach springs, its probably the cheaper option but I have to admit I like the ability to be able to adjust ride hardness and height if I so wish?

on the subject of tyres i decided to try a set of federals at a time when funds were low. once they got some heat into them i could not make the car unstick and that was on my downhill "test" backroad. the biggest scare i got was when my gf shrieked "je$u$ chri$t" i immediately stood on the brakes shouting what? what? thinking there was something on the road i hadnt seen when she said "oh nothing...i just cant believe a car can go round a bend at such speed and stay in control". damn good tyres..until i got the next set. they were totally different in behaviour as though they were under inflated. the only difference i could see was that the federal brand name was smaller than the previous set. different country of manufacture?,compound?, who knows!
i'm very interested in trying the kumho v70 you mentioned 911. sound just like the kind of tyre id enjoy.

I know of some Westfields hill climbing on Federals with better times than Toyo's and a fraction of the cost.
With the tyre tread buffed down to 4mm from new (ouch) the grip is really good.

I will stick with my Kumho's

From experience you can get one and a half deg neg camber using existing OE camber bolts on front. Wouldnt bother with additional expense of aftermarket ones unless you want significantly more.

All for less than the cost of the adjustable shocks !
The improvement in handling is significant and the ride is comfortable without being too soft.
Still just my view.
What kind of cost are you looking at for that, mate?

I've got 18's on my00 clasic... it's standard ride height at the moment... but I have got some Cusco coilovers to go on... will be fitting them in the next couple of weeks... Followed by a geometry set up... I wanna take it to the top of the tyres all the way round... I know there supossed to be a very harsh ride... but as long as it drops it, and the handling is improved... I think I can put up with them for what I got them for...

Depends on how hard the setup is. I also thought the same as you when I purchased my Tein Coilovers but trust me its not possible to put up with the a very hard setup. Spoils the handling and you will be the most regular customer at your local chiropractor.

Luckily mine were adjustable from stupidly hard to just hard and they are now just about liveable. Problems with lowering it so much....every speedhump tries to rip the exhaust off....multi-storey car parks are impossible as are some driveways....cant get a trolleyjack under the car (front or back)...etc

Listen to Bob!
When I slammed my 911 to the ground for racing it was madness. It would ground at speed on the crest of some roads...
I found that I raised the car so my trolley jack would go under the lowest jacking point, in the 911's case the front cross member. Practical, but also transformed the car on the road and track.

My Sti goes along the same route.

I've lived with my previous car for 3 years ( MK3 Orion 1800i Si 130bhp ) I know the performance was nothing like that of a Scooby... but is was my choice to drop it 150mm on the rear and 120mm on the front on 17's...
Although the ride was hard, and alittle bouncy at times, the handling was unreal, it just gripped like mad round corners...
I loved the look of it slammed, and loved even more the way it handled... Once the coilovers are on, I'll let you know what I think...

Depends where you buy but around
Shocks - about £130 (with standard STi springs)
Eibach springs £175 ish
Front anti roll bar and drop links -£115
Rear anti roll bar and drop links -£150
Alignment check £100.
All prices subject to shopping around - particularly the alignment check!

Default ARBs first, or springs/dampers first?

Hi Andy,

So do you think the standard ARBs are fine? ChrisC and 911 were of different opinion, I think, advocating Whiteline bars with STi struts ie. uprating the bars as the first thing to do. I have a stock '95 JDM WRX which I'm about to start modifying, but definitely want to retain compliance.

That spec sounds nice to me for a slick road car spec.
If the new Toyo's are as good as the old TS1's even better.

Strong contrast to ChrisC's approach though, ie uprating the ARB's and keeping standard RA struts (with Eibach springs I think). Anyone care to comment on these contrasting mods, aimed at good handling but retaining comfort:

1. uprate springs/dampers/links + geo setup OR
2. uprate springs/ARBs/links + geo setup
