Now, the crux - we have been together for 3 weeks. She is now telling me she is pregnant. I have no idea on how the biology works, but is it her possible for her to be carrying my baby already? Would ovulation work (or not work) that quickly?
Tried NHS direct but could referred to useless sites - just want to know whether I am being set up a bit here - please excuse my suspicious mind...
Serves me reet anyway.

From my limited memory, there are a number of tests which can be used. They include tests for lutenising hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, human choriornic gonatrophin and a couple of others (yellow bodies and oxytocin) Some of these can be fairly accurate from 7 days.
(Disclaimer - this is all based on 1st year of a genetic engineering degree, which happened in 1990, so it might be complete sh1te now)

Patent Pending!
In fact - why don't you try that? She sounds a bit dense if she knew that neither of you were taking precautions so she'd probably believe it. Get her to do the test, then you have a go on it and then when the blue line is still there and unchanged, hand it back to her and confidently proclaim "See - I told you it wasn't mine you daft bint. All the best. Oh and sorry for pissing on your living room floor." <door slams>

Are you asking do we all think it's yours?
Keep a track of all the dates, like when you did the deed etc, and ask to go to with her when she has her first scan.
She'll be asked the start date of her last period, and she'll only have been able to have gotten pregnant on day 14 / 15 after that - so that might answer a question or 2, she might have one in the oven already.

I'm sorry, but providing she was ovulating around those dates, it is VERY possible that she actually is pregnant, and that it is yours. All the doctor will do, is refer her to the hospital for a scan. I had to wait 2 weeks for mine, so don't expect it to happen instantaneously.

I still think for your own piece of mind that you should get a test done and make sure that you are the father of the child - the numbers and the timing seem a little convinient - although as it has been said by kell and some others that it is possible, that I dont doubt
For your own peace of mind, I would make sure.

That's a BIG bit of misinformation. I found out I was pregnant using ClearBlue digital and this was before my period was due. I did a follow up test with a normal ClearBlue and that also showed positive. This would have been about 15 days after ovulation.
Ovulation can occur any time in a cycle. The "norm" is around 14 days, but stress or illness can delay ovulation and the follicles can release an egg too early. Anything from Day 1 to Day whenever. Your period usually turns up approximately 14 days after ovulation, although even this isn't a guarantee. It depends on how long your luteal phase is etc
Eggs can live for up to 24 hours and in the right conditions, sperm can live for anything up to 5 days. Usually it's 12 hours and approx 48 hours though, respectively.

I assume if the doctor confirms this then he will tell her exactly how far she has gone?
Thanks for the advice!

In Lothian, a normal & healthy pregnant woman will only get a scan at 12 weeks and that is it! Any other scan not done for urgent/necessary medical reasons has to be obtained privately.

Ovulation can occur anything from Day 1 of the start of your period to day X down the line. A colleague here at work has, on average, 72 day cycles, so will only ovulate around days 65/66, as your period comes a pre-determined time after ovulation. Not everyone ovulates every month, either.

Horrible when this happens Are you going to stay with her and help raise the little one or is yet another child going to be asking who and where Daddy is. Best wishes with your situation and I hope everything works out OK for you and Jnr. Enjoy the Scoob as she will demand a 4*4 in 8 months

Most of the home pregnancy test kits only work reliably after the 4th week of pregnancy as there's not enough of the right hormone in the urine.
Mind you the misses "knew" she was pregnant before the home test and we had a positive reading at 4-weeks.
As for 3-weeks being enough time - I think its enough - after 2-weeks of us trying morning, noon and night my job was done - doh!
