The Indian Restaurant in Fleet, Hampshire had an interesting dish on the menu:

Mysore Chilli Chicken

It was ok, but a little bland for my liking!! And no it didn't live up to it's name!

Poppadoms with lime pickle early doors, washed down by first Cobra

Prawn Puri or chicken chat (if hungry) as a starter.

Chicken Jalfrezi (or Rogan Josh), shared rice, shared keema naan, shared sag aloo, shared bindi bhaji.

Washed down with more Cobra.

Then, free drink on the house and 10% discount off the bill (as we are "good customers")

and of course, the obligatory mint at the end.

God, I fancy one now!!

I must be a wuss, I like chicken kashmir. That's the one with the bananas and lychees fighting for possession.

Tell me when this thread's ending, and I'll pass round the hot towels

Always Popadoms with mango chutney and onion

I do like my jalfrezis and baltis but if there is something I have never had on the specials then I'll give it a whirl.
Bindi Bhaji
Saag Aloo
Pilau Rice (Mushroom or keema if available)
Kashmeri Naan (Had a bad experience with a Keema Naan )

Washed down with Kingfisher

Madras for me, no rice, just a naan bread. Or homemade buter chicken in a roll.

Mouth is watering already just thinking about it.

If I don't know the place I'll go for a Jalfrezi but bear with me, if you will, as I stroll down memory lane to the halcion days of the Shah Jehan in good ole' Ilson. Some years ago me and my Bro used to be regular patrons (on a certain Easter weekend we managed Good Friday, Saturday, not Sunday (closed) and Easter Monday. At the time the main man was a pony tailed asian gentleman called Phil (honest, he was ) and a certain rapport was developed. We frequently ordered Rogan Josh, Madras hot or some other delight 'tweaked' to our order. Oh, happy times. TBH the place as a building was a dump but the food was great. And 10 years on we had a meal there to be greeted by the then current owner (we're talking a year back give or take) who happened to be a junior dude way back when. He actually remembered us for times gone by and a couple of bottles of wine and a few Kingfishers came our way - gratis!

Anyway, back on planet earth...

...curries! An ISO standard wouldn't go amiss. It's already been mentioned but a Jalfrezi, for example, in one place will be completely different not only in terms of heat but texture from another. Dopiaza's at my old haunt were medium at best for example.

And jumping on Popeye's bandwagon does anyone know of a decent curry house in Perth, WA?

Correct.

We should tell that to the 'Independent' so they can do another pathetic front page.

It's been a while since I was there, but the better of the curry houses was at the top end of the main shopping street (Hay Street ?). It was almost into the business area, and on your right as you went up the hill. Can't remember the name, but I ate there a few times a week.

Starters - lamb kebab, pashawari or fish tikki all with hot pickle sauce and poppadoms
Main meal - Extra hot chicken vindaloo, cheese and chilli nan bread, and chana masala (lentils and chillis) with chana pullao rice
No dessert but lots of chilled red or rosé wine or beer.

I'm starving...but it's raclette for me tonight, curry has to be tomorrow night then

I love a chicken patia, its a sweet & sour curry with a great sauce for dipping chips etc into, you can often just buy the sauce as a side dish as well.
If im feeling adventurous then its a chicken tikka chilli masala with extra green chillies and some ice cold cans of Miller.

Has anyone ever had the 'house curry' at their local resturaunt?
My mate told me about it a while ago, basically its a curry cooked for the staff to eat after/between shifts. It is slow cooked over a period of hours and the staff can help themselves. Ive never tried it yet but my mate has in a few places and he swears by them.

Avoid popadoms, they take up valuable space and taste like some old shoe
Keep Onion salad,Mango Chutney.Mint Sauce for use with starters and main course if required, Avoid Lime Pickle (sadists only)
Start with the Prawn puri, meat samosa, and onion bhajis(the disc variant, not the ball)
Main, Choice of, Lamb pasanda (madras heat) Tandorri Butter Chicken, Chicken Jalfrezi, Lamb Rogan (ideal if sharing, get all 4)
Special Fried Rice
Peshwari Nan (well done and preferably buttered with honey drizzled on it)
Breather, loosen belt, complain about how stuffed you are
Coffee
Hot Towel
After Eight Mint/Mint Imperial
Bill
Discusion over tip
