Honestly though mine is quite a flawed 'expenisve' car that is well over-hyped by the Audi mob. Its actual HUGE strengths balance that out enough to make it a positive ownership experience though.

For comparison today I drove a merc E class 320 estate back from London and it is a truly awful drive. It is however better on fast bumpy corners as it absorbs them rather than fights them (and this is my key gripe with the RS4).

Jeff is funny as I remember >schoolboy mode on< passing his S4 so many times in my Scoob on track (well I was keeping an eye out for a grown up car for quite a while and there arent many Audi's on Scoob days. No offence mate, just a leveller!

And whilst I have driven many many many cars as part of my work, the only cars that really stand out for handling that I love (and that flatter my mediocre driving [VERY GOOD THING THIS!]) are IMPREZA (and then add tweaks) Integrale (total go kart) and an EVO. Elan & Elises are fab, but not comporable here and I have never driven or been interested in a 911 so cant comment (well c'mon, putting up with the Impeza's interior is bad enough )

I love to have OBJECTIVE comments about machinery/cars, but passion and commitment so often makes that impossible - ohh and then add keyboards

Obviously made more of an impression with you than with me as I have no idea who you are.....never mind .....just chant "Scoobies are great" fifty times ever morning and you'll be fine.

You are soooooooo objective Jeff I dont even own a Scoob so why on earth would I chant 'they are great' unless I owned the company or was maybe just unbiased???

Maybe you can educate me the similar morning mantra for 'Audis are fab' as I now that I own one I really should learn to toe the line! 'Vorsprung durch objzectivity' maybe! Could help resale too LOL

D
PS mine was a grey Scoob with a huge big spoiler at Bedford and yer Audi was easy peezy lemon squeezy mate! LOL

Sorry mate, thanks to you as well.

BUT I can only dream of owning the car you drive and for that I am not classing the RS4 as even barely within my reach. You can say the RS4 is the best car ever and it still won't make me have the moeny to own one.

Thanks one and all, this has been a most interesting thread and one I hope continues when I sort myself an S4.

For the record, and this may sound silly, I don't care so much about handling, I care more about acceleration. I have never ever been impressed by handling ever and I don't think my Impreza handles terribly well anyway.

This is getting an obsession with me now though. I willnot stop until I have one. I dearly want to look at the one at Adams work but I cannot justify travelling that distance just to view.

Theres a lovely green one on autotrader for £10'000 but its a private sale so I have got to sell my Impreza first.

Going to whack it on Ebay and see what happens.

I WANT ONE!!!!!

In objective mode for a moment. Impreza's don't handle well, but with good tyres and geometry alone, they do generally grip pretty well allowing high(ish) cornering speed and they are easy to drive quickly. And whilst lacking any of the feel or feedback of e.g. an Elise, you can tell what's going on. Fast Audi's in general IMHO tend to be very competent, but a bit "solid" of suspension, with less feel than an impreza, let alone a true sports car. At least when on the right surface, they're also pretty grippy and capable of decent speeds.

However, the kind of everyday usable torque levels an S4 can produce - let alone an RS4 - would make it a much faster car in every day or long journey relaxed use than an impreza would ever be (possible exception of a well sorted 2.5). For lots of long journeys and crushing inter-continental type ability in a saloon/estate, the S4/RS4 has to be one of the best about

I do believe that you are confusing me with someone else.....I don't (and have never said on this thread) that S4 are the greatest thing ever but have suggested that they are not as bad as you would have people believe.

As far as Bedford is concerned as you know there is a Warm Up and Warm Down lap on every session .......lots of opportunity for you to get past in your Grey (inspired choice of colour if I may say) Impreza with the BIG wing....which I still don't remember but it was a long time ago.....

I've not read the 1st 3 pages but from what I've read of this page I have to put my view forward. I have ridden in Jeff's car at Bedford and I don't recall any Scoob passing him but I do remember passing every other car (including scoobs) with ease whilst listening to radio 4 in comfort... I was impressed!

Im surprised you can hear it above all the racket your exhaust makes

I have this image of a full on mega-horsepower Impreza with flames spitting out the back, charging around the countryside with the gentle sound of the Archers theme tune wafting out of it's open windows......

Not quite the image.....

Top motors, however for the same money you can have an e36 M3 Evolution.

Faster, a better drive, more fuel efficient.

I'll let you have 'a better drive' meaning handling.....the other 2 statements are marginal at best.....EVO has the E36 M3 at 0-60 5.4 & 25.7 mpg and Audi quote 0-60 5.5 and mpg in real life is going to be around 25 mpg for a standard car. The big advantage with the S4 over the M3 is tuning....it's much easier/cheaper to make the S4 much quicker than the M3

The problem with a BMW 3 Series is the rep image

BMW is not an option. Loved them and now I hate them, don't ask why I just do.

I want a turbo anyway, similar reasons to what Jeff just said and I like the drive of turbo cars.

Jeff, I have the quietest 3" exhaust I could find and have a resonator added. I still think it is a bit loud, but that is just me. No flames unless I hit the rev limiter AFAIK. Radio 4 is listened to through a decent amp and speakers. I can put up with looking like a chav honestly but if they hear the strains of the Archers at the lights (although I politely turn it down ) it would be an amusing dissonance.

Just a word of caution Trem, I'd advise against a green one as come resale time you may struggle to move it on. Popular colours are Nogaro Blue, Silver, Black and Red, although I had no problem selling my Imola Yellow avant as it is quite a rare colour and in pristine condition.

I agree mate (honest) and think your posting the same but WORSE This is cos you fail to add a huge dollop of irony in yours & fail to decode a large chunk of irony in mine. I shan't even mention your 'serious v flippant' differentiation perception problem as it is all the same thing!

My Audi is MOST definitely faster than yours (even if your Audi is a Scoob). Does that cover it Mr Serious? - after all who could I offend now LOL

D

PS I've also passed Porsches & Ferraris let alone silly little Audis (puts BIG male ***** back in pocket and slaps wrist for being boringly objective & dreaming that he passed a certain 'warming down' S4 every time - LOL)

PPS I've also been passed by Golfs @ the Nurburgring which makes my c_ck as small and sensitive as yours [do laugh with me cos its silly!!!]

Trem >above silly 'the dull baiting' chest beating fun appart< I would seriously be wary of Nogaro or Red or Imola. Us Audi drivers are quite conservative you know (R4 on the Bose but ESP OFF!!!...) Even silly old me declined a Noggy Blue one as I wanted stealth not scoop or spoilers 'look at me'... He is still trying to sell it 4 months later and its a nice clean car that I drove...

Congrats on another load of complete drivel

Funny how you didn't note the irony in my post - oh hang on, its the internet a text based medium

Oh edit to add I have neither an Audi or a Scoob - thanks for assuming - so I have no loyalty either way.

Jeff and ScoobyJawa, going on your location info, does it make you a pair of Surrey Kents?

Sorry, best I could do to try and extract the heat out of the situation

I'm enjoying reading the interesting factual parts to this thread. I'm in need of a new car after the demise of my Scoob and an S4 sounds very appealing.

I'll crawl back into my hermit grotto now, please continue.....

Admittedly the Imola was a bit in your face but I don't think the same can be said of Red, and I wouldn't have said any of them in standard guise particularly draw attention except when they fly past.

Ok mate – would be interesting to know how many of each colour was imported here?

My comment was only based on my perception of potential buyers enquires in the RS4 forum, and maybe it’s a bit off. I actually preferred the Noggy, but still went for the Avus. Ultimate stealthy colour I saw was black – but that is too close to the rocket powered hearse gag

I had a Noggy S4 and S3, Noggy is bought by 'enthusiasts', hence Fountain (an independent specialist reknown for breathing on the cars) sells lots. The Audi main dealer network thinks rather less of the colour, when selling mine on one mention of the colour to the main dealers buyers was enough to get the 'woooosh' sucking through the teeth and shaking of head before lowballing the bid.
So I went and bought a Speed Yellow 911...LOL will I never learn? Selling *that* was a real pain in the ****!
