how much bhp your car got with td04?/

Hi Dave. At the time of the rolling road run. Nobody knew what Turbo was on the car. And she was running standard boost. You right she ran out of boost by about 5000rpm. I would never put a td04 on a Type R and have since changed it to a vf22 also changed the ecu to a gems. We are running about 1.3 bar of boost. and the figures have dropped to 291 bhp and 285lbft. Now I am wondering which route to go down either change turbo again or do a conversion on the vf22

It doesn't matter if the TD04 is small when supporting mods increase remarkably volumetric efficiency, you can always achieve more horses from a TD04 with same or lower boost levels just by changing exhaust manifold etc
IMHO!

Decent results, showing that the headers do give better VE, leading to more torque. That would also have been on a classic, which had the slightly less useful version of the TD04? I know one or two others have found similar torque benefits from decent headers
Rb5 245 - I don't think you'll get arguments in that I don't believe anyone has ever achieved 300bhp from a non hybrid TD04 at Powerstation, for example. 312 at Power Engineering - which I stilll believe is the highest that's been achieved - would however get about 300 on many rollers.
I don't think it's a case of 300bhp on pessimistic rollers being impossible with a TD04, certainly not the case with a hybrid TD04. It's just no-one spends many £k on getting the ultimate supporting mods without also upgrading the turbo!

Or a good example can produce more than the book figure, one individual case doesn't exactly prove anything . . . I have seen, for example, an STi7 PPP produce 285bhp at PE (~10bhp down on the same car the previous day at G-force, IIRC), and I don't recall seeing *any* STi PPP making noticably over "book" at PE. Are prodrive therefore also massively over-optimistic in their quoted power?
I'm not disagreeing that PE is one of the more optimistic rollers, especially compared to say your local rollers (not quite so local now). I know e.g. mine, gets mid-low 280s at PE and mid-high 260s at powerstation.
However, does PE read high, or some other rollers read low, or do most scoobs perform badly on rollers due to TMIC and so an optimistic roller gives a good indication of "real on the road" power? I've seen the same car "gain" over 20bhp on the same day at PE by having the tracking adjusted, and know that even tyre pressure can make a few bhp difference. Just goes to show it's all a little academic really, you get a fairly good comparison between cars on the day at a given rollers, and that's it. In real terms the difference between a 280bhp car and a 290bhp is pretty irelevant on the road, either way.
We digress. I still reckon that you could get >300bhp at powerstation on a TD04 if it mattered that much. However, to be sure of it, you might need to spend out on WRC style low friction internals, well sorted headers, good low loss TMIC, full samco or better hosing, decent induction etc etc. And who really wants to spend that much and then only use a standard TD04?
Anyway, haven't you got a garage to build, or Simon's car to finish, or something?

Without it sounding like too much of a plug
the next issue of scoobymagazine will have some 'interesting' td04 results on a set of small bore 4 into 2 into 1 headers ![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif)

think i managed 267 on my import when it had the td04 on as a stop gap
on removal it did have a bent compressor blade tho
i was running it at stupid boost levels as well to make the figures lol
