Very nice +Doc+ still dream of getting my hands on one of these, a guy I work with brother is the official Scottish judge for the series 1 RST at the RS owners club.

Looks good, pity it has has the engine work done though, can't understand why he says it has had smooth hammerright used during the painting process surely it would be better to have used etch primer

wish i had never sold my rs1600i, i loved that car.

mind you it could hold its own with any modern car as it had a tuned (194bhp) rs turbo engine, but the rest of the car was left standard.

i had some fun in that car i can tell you

i've had two series 1 turbos and i still own one now, only use it as a summer car these days but its still a cracking car and always turns heads, its a pleasure to own one. also owned a RS1600i years ago and found it a good car but not a patch on a series 1 turbo.

The seats were made by Scheel, the differences between the RS1600i and the XR3i were massive, and to be honest, the RS1600i couldn't match the pace of the Series 1 turbo, especially when ease of tuning was brought in to the equation. I ran the Scottish RS owners club for around 5 years in the mid nineties, am still a member,had several of most models (especially Mk3 Escorts), still have 2 RS1600i's waiting to be restored (one with a Power Engineering 2 litre block and full series 1 running gear), and always remember my RS1600i's with more affection than any other RS. And by the way, be prepared to feel like the Karate Kid in a Series 1 Turbo (you sit low, both hands up high and one leg cranked higher than the other). If you want a good fun daily driver, find a 1990 spec series 2 turbo, fit a stage 1 chip, stainless exhaust, K&N filter, Koni adjustables, four pot front brakes, and good quality tyres, then go out and enjoy.

A lot of people smooth hammerite the underside to avoid chipping etc.

rst's are loads quicker than rs1600's, after all the internal work done to the rs1600 to make it better than the xr3,
its power output increased by 5bhp, still near 30bhp short of an rst,
you can buy a mint S1 for around £2500 now-a-days,
as the newer S2 rst's are getting more popular again, but you only pay a premium for the best ones,
some of these newer ones are reaching £5000 now, whereas the older S1's
value has dropped significantly.
rst's are awesome fun, i had one for 3 years, and bought and sold 7 others,
made a few quid on them too.
this is my old one, which i sold after buying the cossie.

No a single bit of rust anywhere, that includes under her and all the places they go, rear boot hinge etc.
