It should be remembered, it's the AMOUNT of air you get in the engine ( with the right amount of fuel and spark at right time ) that gets the power and torque, whether thats with a high boost to force it in or a bigger / more efficient turbo that can push more air volume in at a lower boost ( and hence lower pressure ) then either way works, as long as the engine gets cool/cold air in the right amount and the other mods are working OK.
But work the turbo too hard ( as I did with my original TD04 - did NOT deliver the power with the same mods I now have all bar a 2nd hand TD05 and PFC mapped ) I got 256 BHP/Lbft, slow 1/4 mile times, as the air at 17 psi was no more effectively than at 14 psi, and also hotter so more chance of det and less power.
Simple turbo change and map to suit, gained over100 bhp increase! Shows my other mods were not really needed on the TD04 ( actually lost me power, torque and driveability ) but were fine / needed when the air flow / power increased!

Thanks Vulnax - mine's a V5 STi with standard TMIC. Im tring to find the option with the least amount of surgery to fit (FMIC) if not that then still weighing up TMIC upgrades, which all seem technically a bit flawed, and offer little FVM compared with a FMIC.
Andy, that's some well priced stuff! What's the spec of the TMIC? Will it fit my STi 5?

Mark, the custom TMIC will fit with a bit work to the clutch cylinder although it will need a pipe made up to match a std location turbo, it was built to suit the rotated Garrett.
It is 80% bigger than the Sti8 TMIC and runs with twin fans.

Could you send a pic, Andy? Would it be a case of getting a length of correct diameter pipe from Samco and cutting to suit? Its going on a VF29, or later a VF34.
Thanks,

You would be better with an Sti 7/8 intercooler, this may be overkill and not worth the fitment hassles

ps, that top pipe was meant to be temporary but I never got round to making a replacement !
