Further to Alcazar's post, in a recent experience of mine (with companies that may be very different to the ones under discussion here) I lost count of the amount of time the manager at Hi Torq (or something like that) told me that it wasnt worth his while to fit 4 Range Rover tyres I'd sourced from Black Circles on the net. I politely told him I wasnt really interested in his P&L based business decisions and informed the supplier that their setup wasnt really working as a customer doesnt really want to know that someone is resistant to doing the job!!!

At the end of the day however I was happy as the price was REALLY good and the fitting was fine. Does however suggest a phone call to the fitters may be prudent before sourcing tyres from a third party...?

Might be hard to prove as people have said although I think they should be struck off the internet's approved fitter's register, however I am dumbfounded at some peoples response on here.

So lets take an example, I have just bought 2 set's of PF7's from Subaru at a cost of say £1000 a set. One set is dirty after been used for a few weeks and I've suffered a puncture, the other set are still in boxes just about to have tyres put on.
Along comes a trigger happy so called mechanic who marks all of the alloys with an airgun or by fitting the tyres, you approach the mechcanic and complain about the marking on the new set, but tell him it's ok about the other one because it was my own fault that I didn't clean them!
Have the wheels magically depreciated just because they have grime on them?
It is sloppy workmanship full stop and shouldn't happen. What gives the garage the right to mark a set of alloys just cos there dirty, would you accept a bloody great scratch down the side of your car whilst being serviced just cos it's dirty...no I didn't think so!

Me for one would be f***ed off and I would let them know about it, why the hell should we accept it or is that the typical British mentality! Some people must have "mug" written across their foreheads!

OK these wheels may not have been brand new or a £1000 but why should that matter.

Put a clean car in for an MOT and what happens? The Tester is put into a positive state of mind ... if the engine bay is spotless, the underside clean, the interior immaculate .. then you are close to a pass

Put a dirty car in for an MOT and the tester doesn't expect it to be well cared for ... add an oily engine bay and scruffy interior and the tester will be expecting problems

Anyway, back to the Online Tyre Sellers - one is doing 4 TOYOs for £295 (delivered!) .... its going to be hard to pay a supplier/fitter/retailer £600 for the same isn't it?

When I bought some new alloys for my other car I needed the tyres swapping - my local tyre fitters swapped and balanced for £10 a wheel inclusive .... so, add £40 to fit a set of 4 tyres (Still a MASSIVE saving!) .... what I'm trying to say is, 'Get the tyres delivered to YOUR door and take them to a tyre fitter of YOUR choice'
