Songs that define the early 80's would have to be
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Don't You Want Me - Human League
True - Spandau Ballet
Relax - Frankie goes to Hollywod

As above, it's by no means the best, or my all time fave, but there's one song that makes me stop whatever I'm doing when I hear it, and takes me back to my first year in high school. Always has a profound effect on me, 'cos it was a favourite of a very good mate at the time, who sadly died a few years later.
Wishing, if I had a photograph of you - A Flock of Seagulls.
Had it all. Synths, stupid hair, too much make up. Great.
A couple of others would be;
Einstein a go-go
Shadappa ya face
Vienna
All from around the same kind of era.
God, I feel old now

...and we can't forget the one album that everyone had in their car from the moment they passed their test, and everyone knows every word to every track...
Bat out of Hell, anyone?

Oh Superman by Laurie Anderson.
I heard it for the 1st time in ages last week. Hasn't really 'aged'. Still flipping odd .
Anything by Madness/Specials or the Two Tone movement as well.

Change your mind - Sharpe and Newman (Gary that is)
Love will tear us apart - Joy Division
Anything by Japan (song titles escape me for now).
William it was really nothing - The mighty Smith's,
But by then I got into the Electro (breakdance) series - no.s 1 to 9 mainly, it was great because it completely passed the mainstream by. Happy days!!!

Er....No!
When Rick Astley and all the other Stock, Aitkin and Waterman produced muppets came along, music hit rock bottom for me. It wasn't a good time at all!! All IMHO of course.
But then the Stone Roses came along, swiftly followed by the Mondays and we were back on track again
Sorry to go off topic (again)!

Yeah probably, I'm dashing to and from the p.c whilst doing jobs around the house, so I mis-read it.
Plus whenever I see or hear Rick Astley or any other S.A & W tune, it just reminds me of a cronic era in music, hence the bite.
