An amazing performance - as anyone who understands the sport is all too well aware. Even the Seppos on SA are impressed!

Now, how much can Peyron and the guys on Orange knock off the crewed record - they're flying at the moment.

Looks like I got through to you Telboy by telling you just what she had achieved. Lets underline it by telling you that the French chap Joyons beat the previous record by 20 days, and Ellen beat that by over a further day.

Hardly think that is a sermon though!

I personally think that a girl who can face the southern oceans alone, keep up that kind of pace for 71 days, manage to repair the sail track on the mast involving climbing a 100 foot mast twice, and cope with the minimum amount of sleep for all that time is pretty well above average.

Have you got the bottle to achieve something like that? Do you think you could keep that up for that length of time. What other qualification have you got to run her down?

As far as the winds etc were concerned, how do we know that the winds were not more difficult for her than for others? She certainly was becalmed for some time as well. Over that length of time, the winds will pretty well average out anyway.

Its as though you are scratching for excuses to belittle her effort. Any reasonable person would just accept her achievement and give her due credit as she undoubtably deserves.

Its a pity to see such unpleasant carping about another person's success.

Thumbs up

i think she's tops as is what she's done.

and i have to say that (judging by one of the pictures in today's telegraph supplement) she's got an impressive couple of jibs on her fo'castle.

Les, shut up for God's sake. Think what you think; i'm quite content with my thoughts about this achievement, with or without your usual self-righteous preaching.

Nothing self righteous about standing up for what you honestly think and defending someone who is being unfairly put down, purely for effect in most cases too IMO.

I am just as entitled as you are to say what I believe on this forum so I will not accept your oh so polite invitation to "shut up."

Unfairly in YOUR opinion. That's all. An opinion that means jack **** to most people. But one you assume is your mission to foist upon those who disagree with you like we're some tribe of uninformed and uneducated zombies. I don't agree with your opinion on this. End of. Jeez.

Its not as though I am the only person to support her achievement.

...and it's not as though Telboy is the only person who doesn't support it.

The two sides of the fence are never going to see eye to eye over this, so what's the point of bickering over it?

Nothing wrong with discussing it though, thats what forums are for aren't they? I feel perfectly justifed in supporting her for her sheer guts and determination.
