The 8.28 was in the first 50 laps that he did when I spoke to him at the Croft meeting that year.I have that on video and it is not a perfect lap.

Always the doubters!!!

Makes no odd's to me if Stef or anyone else goes around in 54 mins, so I have no benefit in agreeing with something that is not true.

Gary,
No disrespect, but the fact that you have done 140 laps and acheived an 8.33 does not mean that is the benchmark. Again don't take this the wrong way mate, but maybe there are better drivers out there Stef was a headcase.... so that would account for a lot.

Even taking the fact he drove an early classic scoob, with only a different exhaust and air filter, different springs and AP brakes even makes the 8.28 on his video somewhat special.

I prefer to think he was a special needs case, rather than a special driver! lol

Regards,
Shaun.

Thats a bit better ...... 8.28 in the first 50 laps. Now I can believe it.........So not 8.12 after 3/4.

Is your fuel pump up to the job Phil?

Sooty took Emma out for an 8.33 Phil so I know he is quick.

If he can do 8.12 after 3 or 4 laps - he would be quicker than 8.28 after 50 or so.

I just can see how someone can get 90% out of there car so soon.

All the little tricks to learn to make you go faster - dont brake until after the crest at QH and SX........being flat from Bergwerk to Mutkurve........flat through FS........sorry not going to happen

I didnt mean anything to be a bench mark or anything like it come to that matter.

All I know is I have been in some pretty fast machinary over there being driven at ten tenths. They are all more capable than a scoob and these drivers have done 100's if not 1000's of laps and can only just acheive what was quoted from a guy on his 3/4 lap.

Not that any of it matters of course

Gary, Stef was driving Scoobies before you even knew what one was......I wouldnt doubt what he was capable of - Some people just have huge amounts of natural talent. A friend of mine(who has now passed away) used to drive a totally standard Impreza for sprints........I regularly saw him win his class beating Evos, Nobles, 911s etc - he was simply a great driver, it happens.

ADP ...... what was originally quoted was 8.12... If he could do that after 3/4 laps then he would undoubtably be acheiving 30 seconds more when he learnt the track. He is therefore a 7.45 driver in a scoob with a different exhaust and filter. Oh and different suspension of course. Lets not forget that. I think if you look at the stats you will find that just wouldnt happen.

Anyway its now being said that he was doing 8.28 in 50 laps which is fine and dandy by me ....... Good driving all the same.

Oh and PMSL at the driving scoobs before I knew what one was comment ....

Shaun.

We are having probs at the moment. I suggest right click save target then when it stops close the box and start it up again. It will start at the same point. Bit painful I know but the best you can do at the moment, other than using a download manager of course which makes it easy.

I would suggest the M5_911 lap in other ring vids for the sheer comedy and if you want to watch one of mine then either the ferrari or leasurly drive one is ok.

I think you're getting talent and bravado/stupidity mixed up. Stef crashed a few times because he sometimes ran out of the talent he thought he had, but didn't. He drove quite fast, quite a lot and crashed quite a lot. Always entertaining in a "fvck me we're gonna die" way though

On the plus side he kept bodyshops, tyre and brake suppliers busy

Stef was a very quick driver and plenty of Bravdo Stef and CK1 is our own little Scooby Legend

Like all 'Legengs' matbe people shouldn't analyze them toooo deeply Do "We" really want to find out there isn't really a Easter Bunny

The quoted time may, may not, be exactly true, perhaps 8:12 was his fastest lap that day, only Stef would know. IMHO

At least Stef would have the ***** to Post in his own username unlike some with only 1 post

Link showing a 993RS and a GT3 doing a lap of 8 mins 16secs. Its the bottom video on the page.

We are still experiencing probs with the downloads so a download manager is recommended. If not then right click save target as and when it kicks you out click the close box and right click again. It will resume at the same place. Might need to do it a couple of times to get it all.......

This is a large video but it does show you what an 8.16 lap is like........Try imagining being able to do this on your 3/4th lap. Thats the reason I was doubting the thread.

cheers

i was doing 8:15 two up in my westie back in early 2001, Stef was slightly slower than me at this point and i went on to go quite a bit quicker with practice. He started off faster than me on our first trip over, using a westfield was an absolute nightmare trying to see where the track went in such a low car so it was a bit harder to learn, a scoob was much easier to learn in by comparison.

Stef did about 3 times as many laps as everyone else on his first trip and stayed an extra day to get more time in, which is when he set his fastest lap on cossiekiller, the daft sod just kept blasting round. He was driving much better at the 'ring than i have seen him on a UK track, i think the high speed and lack of runoff stopped him being so flamboyant and caused him to concentrate more.

I think his fastest ever lap was 8:20, that number seems to be in my head, he certainly wasnt doing 8:12 after 3 laps. We were both going much faster than you normally see from new drivers at the 'ring though, it raised a few eyebrows at the time with the regulars.

8:12 , blimey is he on drugs?

From my first hand experience of Stef he did crash a lot (in front of me once) but he was still a legend on track. I never passengered with him though so I can't comment on the actual driving style. I went for a drive with him once (I followed in my car) from Northampton to Cheltenham and it was a bit mad to say the least but he did slow for the 30's etc so he wasn't completely insane.

I find it hard to believe anyone can do 8:12's on thier 3/4 laps no matter who they, are as you'd need huge skill, a fantastic memory and huge *****. I'd need proof too.

My one and only pax ride with Stef was post his big off at Donnington. You to get in through the drivers door as the pax door was was bent shut. The window was plastic sheet and gaffer tape

Good few laps though

Hi peeps.

I still lurk from time to time. It's lush seeing those clips again. Can i ask where the in-car clip came from as I've never released those clips and can't find the originals!
I'd love a copy from anyone that has the in and out-car versions.
If anyone can help just mail me. I still get emails asking about a sequel to 'Cossiekiller at the Ring' after four years!!!!!!! I've got enough footage, and it seems someone else has some too!!
Take it easy.

S.

PS I never had a BPM twister on my car, just a straight through Scorpion system with a K&N filter at the time.

And on the subject of times, on my first visit to The Ring where i managed 10 laps i recorded a 8m 27s on video.
I have been three times since and have video showing an 8m 16s lap.
Some of you may well doubt it but it's there. As Shaun has said, i was by no means the most talented driver but i liked pushing Cossiekiller to it's limits, and on several occasions well beyond!
It's good to see the buzz is still there, and i may well show up at a trackday with a rented scoob to show you how it should be done!!!!!!!!
