always thought stef was a bit of a nutter myself - but had endearing moments - like at dono - after the big off - still going round the track with one window missing - then 'giving chase' out of the paddock when a car (terzo?)was nicked from the pit lane by an opportunist - was that brave, galant, or plain daft? - I know the rest of us just stood and gawked instead of doing anything about it!
Sadly, I think that kind of (iwoc) entente between scooby owners is long gone - at least in the impreza fraternity - not surprising really given the demographics of current owners.

Cool link Warren, thanks. I was wondering where that site had moved it to. For those of you that haven't seen the 'Cossiekiller at The Ring' video, note the way ther rear-view mirror is positioned so the camera can see out of the rear as well! Mirror-Cam was one of the best features in my opinion.
And before any flower-arrangers brings the time up (which i think is 8m 38s), it was a steady first lap of the day to get the car up to temp.
Puff.
Now that IS a rare sight. CK1 unblemished. Sigh......
Haven't seen it with the standard wheels for ages. Has anbyone got a pic with the deflectors and EVO wheels?

Stef's best lap of 8:27 in CK1@ the ring was after days of pounding round the track, if i recal corectly you stayed an extra day to continue lapping and set that time, whilst the rest of us were on our way home, me with the westie on a trailer after the turbo oil return pipe had sheered. Based on the number of laps you were doing i would say around your 30th lap, maybe more as you were doing a lot more laps than the rest of us. We went quicker on our next trip, with the help of Ulf and Anders showing us the lines whilst we followed them in their GT3's.
I just watched the video for the first time in years, whats amazing is how little traffic there was compared to a public day these days, back then the ring was open far more often to the public so the congestion on these days wasnt that bad.
My head is now well and truly lacking in hair, helped along by mr trimmer, testosterone can be a bitch.
There is a lap of Joerund and I from the same period as stef's, (8m 09s) with my engine on low boost from half way round, the westie was under 8 minutes when on song and would be a lot quicker now i know the track better. Firstly, I'm not nor have I ever tried to compete with your times and compare CK1 with your Westie. I mean, that would be mad wouldn't it, comparing a 250bhp four-door saloon with a 250bhp go-kart that weighs half as much???????
I'm not sure why everyone always seems so keen to undermine my lap times at The Ring, but if they are going to be discussed I'd at least like people to know the facts.
On our first trip over I managed a total of just 12 laps, and a time of 8min 27secs. On one of the subsequent trips (the one when there was no snow or rain), I did stay longer than most as my car didn't break down on me and I didn't have to get back for work! It was on this trip that I managed an 8min 16secs, which was to be my best. I have in total completed about 50 laps or so.
People were (and it seems still are) very keen to try and assume the reason for my lap times must be the vast amount of laps I've done, or secret mods my car must have had. I can remember someone commenting that from the video he could see my car was running 1.5 bar of boost (rather than the 15psi the gauge was actually showing!
). I take all of these as complements, so keep them coming!
At the end of the day, we all had great times at The Ring in our respective machinery. There is no doubt that John's Westie required more skill to wring the best from it. One of the Scoob's best characrteristics was that it could make an average driver look good because of it's forgiving nature. I had more than my fair share of Hail Mary's that's for sure!!!!!!!!
I drove beyond my ability on several occasions, as my numerous body 'modifications' will testify. I had never been on a track until I got my Scoob, but I just loved pushing my car to the edge. A track is the best place to do that. Armco is more 'accomodating'r than other vehicles and pedestrians!
The one track where it all seemed to slip into place for me was The Ring, and for that reason I feel a very strong affinity with it. It probably had something to do with the fact that if you make a mistake there, you probably wouldn't escape with a few panel changes.
For whatever reason, I seemed to learn the track and get the best from CK1 relatively quickly. This is backed up by the fact I was only able to better my lap time by 11 secs over a further 40 laps. I only ever had the one 'moment' there and I was lucky to get away unscathed. It was to be my final warning, and I calmed down immensely as a result.
Something to ponder......there's a guy at my work who keeps harping on about how he's a much better salesman than me. I keep reminding him than when I'm his age I'd have been retired for years!
Drive safe guys, I look forward to a beer (or ten) in Germany where we can remember the good old days.....

Hi Stef, CK1@ the ring was filmed using footage from our first trip to the ring, your best lap as featured on the video was filmed on the monday you stayed behind, if you watch it again you will see lots of armco repairs being carried out, (amazingly not of your making 
) which they were doing on the quiet monday, after the very busy period of the weekend was over.

It was too expensive to crash @ The Ring anyway. Remember what your costs would have been if I hadn't towed you off??? I nearly got arrested for driving the wrong way round as a result!!!

I couldn't care less what people think/thought of me or my driving. I'd just like them to be in possession of the facts so that they can draw their own conclusions. There were posts saying I'd done my 8m 27s after 50 laps, and I simply wanted to set the record straight as anyone else would surely do. Like I said, I take it all as a complement that it's even being discussed after all this time.
Besides, based on the comments of some of the current members on this board it would seem that 8m16s is still up there as far as UK Scooby lap times go. Sod it, let's be honest. It's way beyond them!!!!!!!!
I know that my times and those of others are there to be debated. If, when, how, etc, etc.
It was these debates like this that made Scoobynet what it was, and hopefully still is

yep, driving the wrong way up the track to tow me back wasnt the best move as far as the Nurburgring staff were concerned Stef. Although i was very grateful, especially considering what the rest of the bills from that situation came to!!
It would be fun to get the old gang together again over there, we used to have a great laugh in the early days, i havnt been in the lindenhoff for a while but collie kisser was still present over the bar last time i looked.

Matt - I remember that car park at the petrol station (think that is me standing next to Mr Squire's RS200, Sally is standing in the middle aswell). If I also recall, John was pulling off some rather impressive doughnuts in his Westie

Stef, just watched your video, I must admit I'm impressed. I would love to make the run down their someday.
I take it thats a real RS200 in the pics, I was just wondering how well it went, they've been my favourite car since Jim McRae took me round Knockhill in one when I was 11. That was 1987. I've only seen one once in recent years and that was on a rally in Somerset. Not competing, just a nice road going example.
Anyway, a good thread and nice to see a bit of banter on here.

Yep, it was a real RS200, its the one featured in the Duke Video about the Group B supercars. Richard bought the car two days before the ring trip, then drove it there. It was far too hardcore for the nurburgring, way too stiff, the tyres were too hard, on track it was a real handful. On the road it wasnt that good either, the clutch was a bitch, it had no radiator cooling fan so was easy to overheat. When it was running right it was seriously rapid in a straight line, used to torque steer badly too as it was putting out a lot of power. All in all not a good choice for the trip, but sometimes bad choices give you the best memories.

Yes, I can imagine. The one I saw in somerset stalled twice while he was trying to park it. When I saw that I knew right away it was a real one. All I remember from my trip in one was its ability to bend my face with the acceleration
