well yes, a deficit of calories, coming from any source, will lead to you lose weight for a time until your metabolism downgrades itself.

but its whether you're losing the right kind of weight that matters, and whether the foods you're eating are anabolic enough, and will enable your metabolism to stay at high levels, leading to continual fat loss while preserving muscle.

if you've been seriously been able to get/stay lean and muscular eating crap processed foods, then you're probably in a genetic 1% of people who have virtually no ability to gain fat.

and yes if it makes u happy, when i say "essential"... i probably actually mean "a REALLY REALLY REALLY good idea IF you want optimal health".

Crap food DOES taste yummy!! It's full of fantastic, high energy stuff that may have meant the difference between life and death for our ancestors, who had to exist hand-to-mouth by grubbing up roots and eating grass! It's perfectly understandable that our bodies are programmed to seek these kinds of foods.

These days we have to exercise a little self-control.

I'm 42 now, Tiggs -and I've done the 19-stone blob thing; I'm estimating that you're around 30 or less and haven't come up against the inevitable metabolic slowing that happens as you mature. Bookmark this thread for future reference....

nooooooo....crap food made fat.....about 21stone and 30% + body fat. Good food made me one of the fastest indoor rowers in the world.

my point was that i was haapy at both stages hence my diet was appropriate for ME.

agree with your last line!
