No one is disputing that Arabs are also semites, Moses, just that in the western world, semite/semetic has always been associated with Jews. Like 'Asian' would be associated with Indian/Pakistani/Bengali in the UK and Chinese/Vietnamese/Japanese in the USA.

thanks for the reply turboman. You are right on both counts I think. Islam does get a slating at the moment, to the extent that when you hear the word Moslem you do think terrorist which is shocking and of course totally unfair to such a peaceful releigion.

And yes, the Jewish community does jump on any criticism, but I think its due to the holocaust that has made us so fearful of a repeat that it has become an obsession to jump on anything that can be misconstrued as anti-jewish. It's like a protection strategy, and it's deeply ingrained in all our upbringing.

Consistently strongly opinioned more like, and doesn't change his public opinion just to placate the masses. I don't agree with everything he says by a long way, but I've got much more respect for him than all those politicians who just say what they think people want to hear all the time (i.e. Blair, Howard etc). At least you know where you stand with Ken...

Boris Johnson was man enough to apologise due to popular opinion. He serves the people after all. Red Ken is meant to serve the people too, but he is too involved in his Ken-centric little bubble to worry what people want, let alone the leader of his party who he is also discrediting.

The man needs taking down a peg or two.

Boris Johnson wasn't strong willed enough to stand up and be counted for what he said, and feared for his job, so he apologised. Also, the situation was slightly different. Boris insulted a whole city (although I did actually agree with some of what he said), whereas Ken only insulted one bloke, who had been making his life a misery for the last x years. Perhaps he should have just said "Now stop doing that would you old chap" instead.

As I said, I don't particularly like Ken, but I applaud him for sticking to his opinions and not changing them (despite it probably being career suicide) just to satisfy public demand. Quite refreshing really
