I got the one with crocodile clips that connects directly to the battery.

...I also trapped the +ve clip against the bodywork yesterday when closing the bonnet and almost set fire to the car

Ive got the crocadile clips as well. Do you feed the wire connected to the bettery via the crocadile clips externally through the grille and then back through the window to the dash? Or from the battery and through a grommet and through the cockpit, Or something else!

Sounds a bigger pain in the @rse than simply connecting the *** lighter.

mines on a sierra and all I do is just run the wire out the top of the bonnet and place the solar panel on the windscreen. Just make sure you don't leave the crocodile clibs facing upwards when you close the bonnet
