Why do you hate the wrx?

geek its going to depend on the gearing, flywheel, etc etc.....some cars peform better at the high end of the rev range some at the low end etc etc...
torque will play more important a part than BHP in a 0-60 time.

You think about this - the impreza has a fantastic 0-60 time becuase of its traction......it's also fast to 100 because it has a fast 0-60 time......but in gear times are slower as the 4WD and 3 diffs couse greater resistance etc.

i've just changed my 03 wrx for a new sti , which is an amazing car but so was the wrx , i loved driving the wrx . it was a lot easier to drive than the sti imho , as for clios well i didn't know we had that many hairdressers on here

I agree its not an exact science - but neither is a 0-60 time indicative of a lap time around a track is it?
But impreza drivers will spout the 0-60 times untill it coomes out the *** holes.
I will continue to use the 60-100 times as I believe it give a better indication of a cars performance that 0-60.

Lets put things in perspective.... the WRX is NOT a slow car. Compared with THE VAST MAJORITY of UK road going vehicles it's performance puts it into the supercar league! Take a look at most manufacturers "fastest" models and you will find that only a handfull can break the 6 sec 0-62 barrier let alone everything else the WRX is capable of.... top speeds are a pointless indicator as anyone using them on public roads should be banned for life IMHO.
Now... compared to a WR1 the WRX is relatively slow (not by very much though) compared to an STi there really isn't much in it..... 0.5 seconds 0-62????
Now lets compare an STi with say.......... a McClaren F1...... the STi then becomes a slow car!!!
Be real people..... the WRX is in no way shape or form a slow car... It's only in what you compare it with that makes it look either fast or slow. Just try and remember those first couple of weeks of ownership before you got used to the power!!!!!

There's notheing between a Wr1 and a Sti PPP...
I'f you beleive the hype and daft owners then its in a different league... simply not the case...
And Who has a standard WRX.. I drove Corrado boy's WRX PPP the other month (the first WRX i'd driven and it was pretty damn quick...
rolling off the line the Sti simply leaves a 182 and i'd have though the same would be ftrue or a WRX with PPP.
IMO

torque will play more important a part than BHP in a 0-60 time.
0-100 (or whatever speed for that matter) show's how quickly a car will accelerate. This is not the same as how much distance it will cover.
Car 'a' - 0-95 in 10 seconds but then it hit's the 'wall' or runs out of revs/gearing so ends up with a 0-100 of 15 seconds
Car 'b' - 0-95 in 14 seconds but no 'wall'/revs/gearing problems of car 'a' so creates a 0-100 of 15 seconds.
So both have the same 0-100 but car 'a' is clearly quicker than car 'b' (well, up to 95 mph anyway.)
Now put both cars on the 1/4 mile and compare.

Spoken like a true FWD driver though.
I've had too much fun at your expense now so I really must stop before I wet myself.
BTW you didnt answer the 1/4mile question

I love my WRX, you always want more power (OK and meaner looks) but I just couldn't afford to run an STI as our family car given the mileage we cover.
The Imprezas are all about grip and there are few cars that can carry so much corner speed and deliver so much drive out of the corners, especially on a wet road.
It's not about 0-60 or BHP talk down the pub, its how you drive what you have, and ultimately how big yer ***** (or top b*llox, ladies) are!
My brother in law knows the traffic coppers in the lakes and they prefer the Octavia RS on the main roads, but always opt for their scoobys on the twisty stuff.
My bikes is way faster that even the STI and cost a third of the price. You pays yer money & takes yer choice. <end of rant>

in answer to your question - do we suppose these cars are diven by different drivers?
The list of reason why they would not reach the finish at the same time are plenty.
Different drivers
car weights (inc driver fuel etc)
launch of the line
gearing
aerodynamics - (less of a prob at a 1/4 mile, unless you do 300mph)

Old wrx's were great no denying that, what I cant get over how bitter some owners are of the updated models
