Why even try and compare the WRX and Sti - they are both different cars aimed at different markets. As such they are both very competitive in their field.

I could have afforded an Sti but chose to go for a WRX PPP instead as it's better suited to my needs, ie mostly motorway driving with the odd blast and fun in the twisty bits.

[group_hug]
I suspect also that in the 'real world', ie not on a racetrack, there's really not that much tangible difference in speed, rather the 2 cars drive and feel different.
Therefore depending on what you enjoy/value you will prefer one over the other..!

gearing
aerodynamics - (less of a prob at a 1/4 mile, unless you do 300mph)
Geek: took you a while with the researching.

Assume that drivers are the same as well as their abilty to launch. Weight and gearing being equal.

Are you beginning to see how even 0-100mph figures arent the whole story. Then you start adding your 'well it not an exact science' formulae and it becomes lol1: lol1:

I realise 60-100 is not the whole story neither is 0-60, 1/4 mile etc

Just a figure I use....and one I have seen used on here before, and you are the only one questioning it.

Geek: 0-60mph times are measured in a accurate way. So too are 1/4mile times.

Your 'not exact science' formulae of taking 0-100mph time and deducting 60-100mph time to get a 60-100mph is nowhere near accurate.

If you want to carry on blabbing inaccurate figures of 60-100mph (like a bitter FWD driver) you will get pulled up from time to time and get told why they are not accurate.

At least next time you will know the answers to the questions (add a bookmark).

I've had so much fun.

PMSL you have no idea about the cars I have owned or own.

Suffice to say I had a MY01 WRX (slow as poo).....fantasic 0-60 time though

I now have a choice of RWD and FWD (both faster than the car it replaced.....although not in the 0-60 stakes!) .....but I am far from bitter.....in fact I see myself as seeing the light...realising that on a track day 0-60 is as much use as Subaru brakes.

...but I am not "wrong", and as for educating, exactly what have you told me....nothing.....I am still happy to use 60-100 as you have shown no evidence other that laughing like a village idiot!

I just dont see how 0-60 or a 0-whatever figure can be taken seriously....clealy impreza drives love it as it makes there car look fast against more powerful opposition.

I would welcome if manufactureres agreed an a std 20-60 or 20-100 etc.....of course gay wheel drive manufactueres would not like it

BOB'5, draw a graph, time on x-axis, velocity on y axis. Now draw a typical profile of velocity against time representing a single run from 0 mph to 100 mph.

If we take the time taken to 60 mph as X seconds, and the time to 100mph as Y seconds, the time it takes to go from 60 mph to 100 mph is Y-X seconds.

It may not be representative of in-gear acceleration from a constant 60mph to 100mph, but it's not complete bo!!ox either is it now?

Enjoyment factor can be had in any car. Can't be rated as 0-60 or whatever.

Ownership experience is also FAR more important than a 0-60 or 60-100 or whatever.

Couldn't agree more. The wrx is a much more practical family car,(which mine is), its not as hard riding and is quick enough to see off most other cars. And when spec'd as an SL, you get leather/heated seats etc.., making it luxury itself!. I think I must be getting old!.

Yes the sti is fast and great but for some of us the power in the wrx is quite enough and for whatever reason was the model we chose ( enough power for now )

We are all scooby lovers ( I think ) so why give my beloved a hard time? I like foresters, sports, leggys because I like subarus, sometimes I feel that justy's get more respect.

Dont get me started on the bugeye is it ugly? debate

rant over

Geek: you're not 'wrong'? And I was laughing like a village idiot or at one?

If it makes you feel better using inaccurate figures then so beit. Bear in mind that anyone with any car knowledge will tear it to shreads though.

Car manufacturers all choose to use 0-60mph not just AWD manufacturers. So too do all the magazines as it is still seen as a benchmark of performance.

Personally perfer 1/4mile times but 0-60mph is hardly irrelevant.

Ok so you dont wish to share your experience of 'WRX 01 ownership'

I have a MY99 which has the same brakes as a WRX 01 (ie 4-pots). For road use they are strong reliable units unlike the earlier 2 pots. The pads are not suited to track use.

But I guess you knew this all anyway?
