Your even taxed when you die. This money has already been taxed before it gets taxed again.


There doesn't seem to be a moment in life that the chancellor doesn't have his hand in your pocket helping himself to your hard earned.

They are anyway! Sell all your scoobs and buy classics! Get tax exemption, cheap insurance. Sit there in your ppp sti dawdling at 30 in the city centre as the guv'nor kicks in and I fly by at 40 in my mk2 cortina....class!

This why we are doing up an old morris minor, no road fund tax to pay and £120 a year insurance, spare parts are also very cheap... it is almost free motoring, and as the thing will only do 40 MPH down a hill with a tail wind there is no need to worry about the mobile police cash machines...

That's still 10mph faster than an ISA controlled vehicle will be going.

Think I'll get myself a vintage moped or a D1 BSA Bantam. *Clouds* of blue smoke from the petrol/oil mix and no emissions test.

Just bear in mind that even if your car does not have its speed electronically controlled does not mean that you will be free from the monitoring system.

You will still need the GPS system fitted to allow for road charging and it is likely that it will also report back on your speed, just to ensure that you didn't "modify" the installation and also to ensure that drivers of classic cars will be bound by the same restrictions as others. Go at 40mph in your morris minor and your conviction will be on the database before you get home, with the fine in the post of course.

I didn't see the programme, so I am guessing a bit about the topic, but here is my vewpoint:

Studies seem to indicate that enforcing speed limits artificially in the car would probably increase the number of accidents, especially if it cannot adapt for conditions.

The government did conduct a small study which showed that by taking part of the responsibility away from the driver, the driver would begin to rely on the electronics to do the job for them - not only not thinking about the safe speed for the prevailing conditions, but also increasing tailgating and running red lights.

If vehicles are fitted with mandatory speed limiters, it is likely that the number of accidents will increase.

The government chose to "bury" this study rather than moving it to a larger, more statistically significant survey. The dangers have been highlighted in the short study, if they go ahead with such a plan without further investigation, the government will have blood on its hands.

I'm writing my letter right now. To be honest, I'm not sure which I find more appalling - the fact that our government should propose such an intrusive and ineffective system amid a stream of soundbites and manipulated statistics, or that the informed motoring community should come across so totally apathetic about it.

The reaction of almost everyone seems to be 'bend over', when it should surely be 'backs to the wall'. Please, don't sit on your ar*e moaning about it here - moan to someone whose job it is to care. Write your MP or to the Transport Minister. Let them know that you're aware of the proposals, that you don't approve, and that you'll vote accordingly. The fact that you're sitting surfing the web proves that you have the time. Don't be part of the silent majority!

Perhaps they're not as informed as they like to think. Hate to say it, but most people seem unable or unwilling to contemplate what the future holds. All I feel I (and one or two others on here) can do is keep banging the drum until (hopefully) people awake from their stupor and realise the path we are being gently led down by this sinister administration.

Wait till you see their proposals that are in the pipeline for off road vehicular activity. Basically, there won't be any if they get their way.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like writing letters, and I certainly don't like spending time thinking about ISA and its implications. It's easy to just quickly move on to the next thread and pretend you'd not read about it - it's unpalatable stuff, after all.

The difference is, I can be bothered. If anyone else wants to make their voice heard, I'm happy to provide excerpts from my own letters to get you started.

Of course, anyone who thinks even that is too much trouble or a waste of time, and would prefer to simply bend over and do absolutely nothing, is welcome to do so.
