btw, only specific parts of 22b are wheels wings bumper spoiler and dash.

normal dash fits in.

copies of wings can be made.

copies of other owners body panels can always be created as there is a close nit community of them due to their specialness (a sub division of 22B.com which is open to everyone).

For example I have spare front and rear bumpers, just in case. Am looking to work on spare wings too.

As for the EVO, i just dont know, ive seen a couple now down the local dealership but i just dont know if it flicks my switch....

Why cant Subaru build us a nice new 2dr coupe ???

I would quite willingly pay 30K for that !

So would I!!!

I have a P1 as well, and the only subaru I would change it for is a 22b. I have even thought very hard about doing this!

I totally agree with AdamM. Only buy a 22b if you love the look, if not go and buy a normal fast car like a Spec C or an Evo.

I knew but didn't care when I bought my 22b about the cost of parts. I just love the way it looks. And I always look back at it when I've parked

Dave.

I really do think its got to be the 22B.. I have driven both the UK spec and the Import. When you glance in the side mirrors and see those rear arches bulging out, you just know your in something special. I was hoping to go this week and view the UK spec one for sale in Rochdale but ive got a week of late shifts to look forward too instead.

The Mitsi might be a rapid car but i want something thats not so common (please dont hate me Darren). Ive seen a few around my way now and unless your a real fanatic, you cant tell the difference between them.

If anyone knows of a mint 22B for sale then please email me and let me know... Prefrably one that hasnt been tracked.

Thanks

MR 320 or 340. I have a 320 with 340 chip. I had a MY03 STI before the EVO. The EVO is SIMPLY AMAZING!

Ok,do we think that the price of a 22B has hit its lowest? If one were to buy one now for £25k would it be worth nearly that in a years time ie is it a proper collectors car?

Nearly brought a 22b but was worried of the parts and panels issues. Still the ultimate impreza for looks and presence.

Didn't think the F360 was blisteringly quick, thought an MR340 would be more capable upto 140 ish?

A chap I know had one and we had a little play in mt STi4 (decat) upto 130 ish and he wasn't pulling huge gaps by any means. Clearly it was worth about 8 times my STi though

Sounds like you should consider a 350Z, if you won't miss the outright accelaration of your P1, 4 wheel drive, or the back seats too much and of course if you can see past the badge Also they're holding their value pretty well as there's still a demand for them and in the future will hold value much better than a RX-8 IMO. Also, heard the DC Sports exhaust system v. (If you wanted more go a low boost supercharger kit could be an option also )

I saw a nice 22B for sale on the day I went to pay my deposit for the Evo (VIII FQ300)
Thought long and hard on the journey over to leave the cheque, should I, shouldn't I.

Ended up with the Evo, but I've always got a nagging little voice questioning the decision.

22B is, quite simply stunningly beautiful. The only thing that put me off was sheeling out 23.5k for an S reg car, I just couldn't justify that amount of dosh on something that old.

The Evo's now worth about 21.5k, 22's still probably worth 23.5k!

I think 22B price may have hit its lowest.

It has been gradually dropping toward the 20k mark, with good ones still being nearer 30.

I still believe they are settling with the owners who will keep them forever.

Sadly mine has been far too tinkered with for anyone considering an unmolested example.

Anyone want an immaculate 35k miled 550bhp, 550lbft 22B for 40k?

scoobyp1,

I can total bills to over 60k! (on top of car).

if you want the run down, look in the project 22B thread, but basically.

PAR 5 speed (working fine despite bad rep)
Lateral clutch - easy as pie!
billet fly wheel
farnden 79mm forged billet crank, cross drilled
PAR rods
Custom JE pistons (my spec, only used in my car and christians 621lbft type r)
Steve Guirey Custom gas flowed and ported heads
custom billet valves, double sprung, custom followers and retainers
gas flowed inlet manifold
8 cosworth low impedance grey injectors
ej22t block relinered using custom diesel liners. fully closed deck, no gudgeon pin access holes!
14mm head studs throughout
Custom uppipe
custom downpipe with T to external wastegate to make it civil on the road.
air injectors for incredible boost control.

Now on a GT30R turbo, running to 2.2 bar, was running a gt35r and making 550lbft at 3700rpm. Mapped on the engine dyno.

Built by dtw engines with receipts to over 8k in labour alone !

Boost threshold is now sub 3000 yet continues on to redline at choice of 7500 or higher.

The piece de'resistance:

Pectel T6 ecu running wideband lambda, 3d boost control, 2 maps, one for nf one not, with appropriate switch gear inside to switch. Boost control pot to restrict boost to 1bar when you only want 400bhp for pootling round town. Or turn off turbo altogether for whent he wife drives. This is the single best thing I have ever bought for the car.

External cosworth over sized oil filter,
baffled winged cast ally sump
oil primer system
all the above give an oil capacity of 8.5 litres
roger clarke oil pump

With compressio ratio, it still makes 200lbft off boost at full throttle, but off boost doesnt last long now.

ok. rotated inlet manifold leading to Lateral performance top spec intercooler core and custom rad. Normally this prevents you from having aircon, but I refused to allow my car to turn into a no compromise performance car, so I worked out a way to have air con but still use this intercooler with the short pipework of a rotated inlet manifold.

Custom air con rad in place of top mount, air con compressor in standard location, alternator in location of standard power steering. power steering replaced by remote mounted electric power steering pump.

AP 6 pot brakes

front and rear top and bottom cusco strut braces.

and in the near future

scoobysport full suspension
scoobysport active centre diff controller.
already own water injection system but not fitted it yet as I don't see the point of trying to extract more power. It is more than fast enough and is happy to change lanes in a straight line due to the torque delivery. which can be slugged easily using the incredible boost control.

On the dyno (admittedly with induced load of dyno) it went from 200 to 500lbft in the space of 150rpm.

torque stayed over 400lbft from 3500 to 7000 rpm. (not sure about now due to smaller turbo.

engine on the dyno with stood 2.8 bar loadings at times, but I don't push it beyond 2.1 as it just isn't necessary.

Basically I set out to build the best impreza I could think of, and the failure of my original engine gave me the opportunity.

I am a lot worse off financially, but am glad I did this before getting married (this year) and having kids (near future).

I don't really want to sell it ever, but if I did, it would be making way for a 355 GTB manual. Much slower, but another icon which I adore.

I have age on my side chuck. am hoping that by the time I can justify it and have already paid for the kids, the 355 will be much cheaper - wishful thinking! not gonna happen.

Could only buy one now if I sold 22B. Really don't want to do that. No way I would put the 355 in the garage and leave the 22B outside, so I would be needing to buy a house with a double garage first.

If your leaning towards an Evo, wait for the EvoIX. The gloves have come off in japan on power again. The new Evo will start at 280bhp not 260. There are a few more upgrades with the handling/putting the power down. The SAYC has been upgraded. The suspension has also had an upgrade(i think - new bilsteins). The top of the range will be a 350bhp. I don't know what the will do between 280-350, but I think they will all get the light weight roof. Also the IX looks good.

Deep, I sold the C4S last month, never really gelled and never really found it comfortable. My sensible comment was because I was going to get a F355 to replace it. But I don't have garage space, my cat would leap on it and scratch it and the kids mean I'd have to get a MY96 or ealier pre-airbag car which isn't as 'sorted' as the later cars (technically/mechanically)
In the end I decided to get the new Boxster 'S' which I pick up on the 5th March. I think it'll be a fine counterpiont to the 22B

Oh totally, it never ceases to amaze me what car an evo isn't faster than.

The 420bhp stradale which weighs 100kgs less than an EVO and doesn't have the aerodynamics of a shed is slower to 120 mph........333 bhp per tonne, wake up.....
