Chrisp: Sure.... And probably uprated fuel pump and regulator.. But still stock internals.

Luckily my older classic has the td05 as standard.

You'll not need to go faster than you can in a classic, but you might want too It may not have a performance advantage over the Gti's of the magnitude that it once enjoyed, but the fact that there isn't a GTi out now that can catch it to 60mph -or do significantly better in the more real world 30-70 mph increment- some 10 years after it was introduced in the UK, speaks volumes.

Make no mistake a Classic is a very quick car!! Up to sensible speeds, its largely untouchable, especially in the damp/wet. The most telling comment was from a friend who owns a. . . .wait for it. . . new M3. Now, don't worry, I'm not going to make exaggerated performance claims here, the BM is certainly a quicker car, but I took him for a spin and he left the car with the following words: "love it: grips like a leech and goes like stink, proper kick in the back performance!!!"

Says it all really.

A few years ago I worked at a Subaru dealer and drove Classic’s, P1’s, WRX’s right through to the early bugeye STI’s and to be honest I found the original to be about the best all-rounder
So are you saying that you prefered a Turbo 2000 to a P1 ?

The P1 is the better car but it doesn't justify the extra money needed to buy and insure over a Classic.

Plus you cant get a fridge in the back of a P1 and it has more w4nker magnets as standard.

All good cars though

Dave

MY00 wagon as described by Mr Lewis + PPP(soon) and ice mods.

Just sold my MY98 wagon with PPP. (Got all of PPP second hand piece by piece and fitted myself, cost about £400.) 255BHP, 276ft.lb torque. New owner just taken it away this evening. Would have another in the blink of an eye, and no doubt I will one day when finances allow.

I'm totally gutted. Owned it for 3 years, and probably it took 2.5 years to get the car exactly how I wanted it, and now it's gone.

A friend who live 130 miles away now owns it. See him quite regularly, not sure whether that is better or not, although he has made me a named driver on his insurance.

If you look long and hard and don't rush into a purchase there are plenty of mint, well looked after cars like the one I owned out there to be found.

Snap. MY99 UK Wagon with all the sprinkly toppings, leather, sunroof, really bad stereo, unmolested and I love it. UK cars are much cheaper to insure too. Still may consider an import down the line though.

WTF? If I wanted a run around I'd buy a Rover...
and meanwhile back in the real world, a UK Impreza is a fine car and plenty fast enough for UK roads and their poxy cameras/coppers etc. As the posters say, if it isn't just mod it.

What I meant was you can buy a 98/99/00 Turbo for peanuts these days, and for a quick reliable form of transport they are ideal as long as you can handle the fuel & insurance costs.
Obviously a Diesel would be better for mile munching, but if your daily commute is less than 50 miles per day an older Scoob will fit the bill nicely as your run a round.

not this again....this was done with bug/blob wrxs which are considerably slower than uk classics.

13.7secs @100.6mph 1/4 mile for 208bhp uk turbo

http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#2.2

You dont have to be a genius to know that is in a different league to a clio or ctr.

There are so many jokers on here

Well said Bob! You could have quoted the figures for the 215bhp MY99 model though!

From september 1996 all import WRX saloons had 280PS (276bhp).

The WRX wagons were 280PS (276bhp) from 1997 (except the rare auto version)

Yep on ron 100 fuel, but nothing a quick remap for uk fuel wont fix

Mine is mapped to run on straight optimax

My UK Wagon did a 13.5 at pod on a damp greasy track... Show me a Clio/CTR/GTI that will match those times...? Yes mine is not standard but there are standard ones doing those times... Anyway - the ScoobyECU only cost £150 I believe...

I have a MY00 UK spec turbo and I love it......but only because it's Tek3'd etc, and circa 270 brake. Thought it was **** when it was standard, I was really, genuinely disappointed with it after all the stories I'd read about them. Depends on what you were used to previously...I had a mildly modified Corrado VR6, and the Scoob just felt gutless on the road after it. Not meant to sound harsh on the Subaru at all, it really does matter what your previous car was like. If I'd come from a 1.4 escort, the Scoob'd be magic as standard.

That's not a fair comparison really.. The VR6 Corrado was pretty special - and with nearly 200nhp and only fwd it was one quick car. There are not that many hot hatches that quick even today... The VR6 Corrado was quicker across the 1/4 than even todays "mighty" Civic Type R. So any run of the mill hot hatch driver will be more than impressed with even the standard UK car.

However... talking Corrados... My brother had a VR6 Corrado with a 1.8T (225) motor, bigger IHI Turbo and different management. With the boost turned down to 15psi it was making around 280bhp. To drive it was totally insane. Wicked Torque steer that made it tricky in a straight line - never mind going round a bend as it came on boost which was just mental... My Scoob with similar power is an absolute dream to drive and would have left the corrado for dust as soon as you came to a set of bends....

Not trying to sound petty here, but there was never a 1.8 turbo vr6 corrado. The whole vr6 thing refers to it being a v6, which is a 2.9 normally aspirated lump. I think the only blown version was the G60, which had a supercharger rather than turbo.

Correct me if i'm wrong.
