I bought a UK Turbo back in 2003, I can imagine you would be impressed after a hot hatch, but I found it a total disappointment.

awful brakes, loads of under steer, poor direction change at speed, wallowy.

Certainly not what I would call a good handling car.

'kin brakes lasted 10mins of hard use, bloody dangerous....

They may be nippy, but there not quick, maybe quicker than most things to 60MPH, but it took years to reach an indicated 150MPH

I can well imagine a modern hot hatch giving them a good run for the money, straights and twisties

Do not pass go and get an Sti to start with instead of throwing ££££££ at a UK model

IMHO

Gotta agreed with all that...I do like my MY00 very much but the handling is not good v unpredictable IMHO and don't even get me started on the brakes...seems rose tinted specs are a popular choice of eyewear on SN...

Default getting long in the tooth

I've enjoyed my 98MY UK turbo for 7 years from new. very practicle, fast; although it has started to feel slower of late, it can scare you on occasions when not concentrating. No one has mentioned the lights yet; they are RUBBISH! The best things I did were upgrade the exhaust for better midrange, and put on the 4-pot calipers and Tarox disks/pads. However it still doesn't feel it wants to stop sometimes!

I'm going to upgrade to a new UK STi soon for several reasons;
1. I like the look of it
2. I'll enjoy the performance and better brakes
3. a few things have started to cost me a bit of money.
4. it's got to have better lights

But more than anythiong I saw the feature on one of the car programs where they crashed a nine year old car into a brand new same make/model car (Renault I think). That really un-nearved me a bit. I'm not expecting to drive much quicker than I do, apart from acceleration, but if it does go pear-shaped I want to walk away.

Must admit, my UK Turbo does have 4 pots, with 335mm disks, braided lines, eibach springs, better ARB bushes, strut brace, 18s, HID lights with PIAA driving lamps, shorter shift gearlever and quite a few other mods to improve the 'weak' areas - I certainly couldn't live with the 2 pots - !!!

MarkWild: Mine is an early UK so has the td05. I believe the td04 can only push 290 max??

Yes and the brakes are sh!te...

Misty: They may take an age to reach 150mph but I would like to know which "hot hatches" do get to 150mph quickly!!!

Aha ! - that explains a lot .... I made 281 on my td04 with the std top mount (262lbs) using a PE phase 2 ECU....As you say, pretty max'd out
